Speaking of AC Cobras, I've always been a fan of Bill Thomas' Cheetah. Similar vibe to the Cobra but smaller and lighter. 327 Chevy V8 small block, Rochester mechanical fuel injection, double venturi on top, tube frame chassis, engine behind the front wheels with crazy long straight headers which wrap around where you put your feet basically turning it into a foot oven. 4 speed, Corvette rear diff for IRS which sat so close to the transmission there's no driveshaft, just a coupler. It's an odd looking thing but awesome as gently caress because 'merica.

This one is a tweaked one which doesn't have the standard headers, nor vertical intakes sadly, apparently you could see the pulsing of the vapour at full throttle from each stack due to the overlap and duration of the cams.

Did they say what motor was in it in the video? Because I'm pretty sure they all had big block motors, though the wiki says the prototype had a 327. In any case that specific car has weber side draft carbs on it and not mechanical fuel injection. It might have had a some kind of crazy fuel pump though. The one that ran up the hill at goodwood was definitely a big block car. Though they were probably all kinds of different motors in those cars.

I'm surprised that body doesn't have lift issues at speed. It looks like it came from the era when engineers were beginning to understand what an aerodynamic car might look like, but not how to actually design and test one.

Speaking of the Shelby Daytona and "interesting" handling, I always assumed they had a double a-arm front suspension but what I saw one the one at Shelby in Las Vegas had a lower a-arm with a transverse leaf acting as both upper arms. I couldn't imagine what that must have been like to drive with the forces transferring over the leaf spring from side to side and the odd camber curve caused by the leaf spring flattening out as the wheel went up and curling down as the wheel went down. I think I'd much rather drive a Factory Five or Superformance.

All the recreations seem to have changed to more conventional double a-arm but I was able to find a couple shots of the original and :stonklol: that must have been interesting. They did it in the back too.

Casey Putsch made a video of his personal experiences owning one. He says 327 small block. I'm assuming people wedged big blocks in them because 'merica. It's a good video, he seems like an entertaining guy his other videos suck but he's good in this one.

*edit: No mention of the engine in the blue one that I posted video of but CCK Historic built it and they said it had to be period correct for Goodwood so I clicked through 65 pages of news on their website to find this:

WUT.

it sounds like you guys have already figured this out, but this is obviously a SBC. look at the siamesed exhaust ports.

also the one in the goodwood video the announcer calls out as being a "6.9 liter" engine (nice), which is about 420 cubic inches (lol), which is definitely achievable with a stroked smallblock

I replaced the valve cover gasket on my F10 535 a few weeks ago and it took around 4 hours. More than half of that was a single bolt that had to be removed and replaced using a slim ratchet (think 3-4 mm thick) that I could only move a single click at a time. I'm sure I could have gone to a hardware store and found some combination of attachments that worked, but as my car was obviously inoperative I suffered through it a single click at a time taking it out and putting it in. Getting it started was the absolute worst.
