The weirdest VAM post I read was a guy who.... made a super realistic model of his dead grandfather and then would go talk to it to try to get over his death? So it's sort of a VR sex simulator sandbox for computer programmers that doubles as a way to relatively easily create quasi-photorealistic models of people based on photographs which you can also interact with in non sexy ways if you want. Some of the custom peripherals people have made are, uh, interesting, too. There's a lot you can do with vive trackers, apparently As for status, I deliberately set my Discord status to "Playing Virt-A-Mate in VR" and left it that way for months as soon as I became aware of this product. I think it just shows up as VaM.exe in steam when it's actually running though and one supposes you can rename the executable. edit: I'm great at terrible snipes lately.

I think if it was an online thing in a shared environment there's no way I would have even booted it, and my general skepticism of non-text online interactions has, so far, kept me away from VRChat or accepting blind game invites in Eleven. I probably need to get over this if I am ever gonna fully arrive in the Gibson timeline. Bad Munki posted:Does it make your shoot on yourself though? I don't think this is possible out of the box but I bet there's a mod for it. Reddit maintains a directory of VAM plugins and it's got like 7000 things in it, many of which are paid Patreon content. It's impossible to easily estimate the full financial footprint of the Virt-A-Mate ecosystem but I don't think it's unreasonable to think dozens of people are making some kind of living building VR anime tiddies, which is also Pretty loving Gibson Timeline.

Just from a few videos I've seen of social VR chatting, a lot of people love to get weirdly close to you and that's not something I'm totally comfortable with. It's not real, sure, but your mind is a funny thing and can make even silly poo poo seem off-putting. I definitely wouldn't be cool with somebody touching my virtual junk uninvited.

From my experience the majority of VRChat's community has a fairly tacit understanding that personal space rules apply, and the only ones who really violate it are fuckwits you should block anyway. Most of the time when you're seeing VRChat clips, it's also of a private instance among close friends. Most Streamers will typically not go into public worlds for all the exact reasons you can think of.

Is there a program that you can use to evaluate different headsets etc? Like a test screen: but animated/VR appropriate? I picked up one of those Danol reverb g2 replacement gaskets and want to see as objectively as I can whether it's any different for me.

He's claimed to be deep in dev on version 2 for a long time but if he's just drinking $30 cocktails in Belize that's probably a better plan, or, at least, that's where I'd be. Amazingly so, apparently. I have not tried to add up the patreon's of the handful of high profile content creatures but I see that MacGrubers VAM Lab is pulling $600/month itself. I thought about making an encryption plugin to act as middleware between paid VAM content and Patreon to validate people's content access (and never store noncrypto versions in local storage), but I am not confident the market for something that specific is big enough to be worth the effort and it sounds like a lot of work. Work of a type that would be profoundly unhelpful on my resume unless my life changes a lot, lol. Cabbages and VHS fucked around with this message at 18:28 on Jul 22, 2021 |

Just go ask in YOSPOS there's plenty of people who've done the same, but for the most part it's going to be some version of "build a portfolio of small dev projects using in-vogue technologies and get into webdev". It's several months of spare time effort though fair warning. Also most people probably won't be keen on handholding you without a lot of pestering, since that's kindof a lot of effort too.

I have an annoying problem where when I connect my Quest to my PC, Windows also decides to redirect all the other sounds to my headset, like if I'm playing music or a podcast. I can't just disable the headset in audio devices because then the sound from the actual VR software I'm running will go to my speakers too, but even if I change the settings in sound mixer/sound settings, I have to do it all over again next time I reconnect. Is there a fix for this?

It's literally Poser in VR and has all the poser sliders to go with it. It does have basic scripting support so you can make interactive comics if you'd please. There are also basic plugins that will add idle animation states and other things to make it more creepy/lifelike. Unless you've found a resource for premade scenes that someone else has spent time mocaping, the app itself is pretty lackluster and will require a lot of time / effort in order to get anything meaningful out of it outside of it being a Toy Doll simulator. I've also found the VR (at least the OVR plugin) to be pretty broken the last time I tried it, and it's missing a lot of features you'd think would be built in for something that was intended to be VR first. So after building a new pc and the Index still having all the same issues as before, I tried the USB port on the front of my case as a last ditch effort and surprise it works like 90% of the time the first time! So the ‘fix’ seemed to be a standard usb 2.0 connection, as that’s the only diff between the ports I can find. Now my question is why does it only work 90% of the time? I suppose I could open some sysinternals tools to track what drivers / files are (not) loading? Is there like a open git repo people contribute to for the SteamVR env., or is this all proprietary black box stuff?

I've missed iRacing races before because my setup just suddenly isn't connecting and I have to do a windows reboot before it'll work and then poo poo I missed quali.

One of my friends is a regular pole dancer in VRChat - she lines up a virtual pole with a real one in her house, then the rest is just Vive trackers. She invited me along to one of her shows (I guess I could go anytime, but whatever), and it was pretty good, everyone was goofing around with their stupid avatars the same as usual in VRChat, and the world itself was really well done, with stages that could vanish into the floor to swap out dancers between sets. Even for an event that was just dancing with no actual nudity, they were super hot on privacy - Discord invites through mods only, everyone is vetted on entry into a private world then allowed into the main arena, after which it's locked by the mods, explicitly no recording except for one approved person, etc etc. Essentially the devs know they could potentially land themselves in trouble if they are seen to give explicitly adult content their tacit approval, so they notoriously come down hard on NSFW content that is publicly available, but anything that stays in private instances is left alone. The other fun thing I learned that evening: so there's this range of adult toys called Lovense that can be paired over the internet, the idea being that long distance couples can interact with each other by having feedback from one toy affect the haptics and motor in whichever device they're paired with. But of course, people immediately realised that if you load up a program like VRChat, add an extra apendage to an avatar, track when it clips through, I don't know, let's say another avatar, then send that data back to the haptics in whatever network connected gentleman's aid you happen to have lying around... Basically, VR porn is wild and it's going to be a whole other world once the first set of cheap haptic gloves get finished (as opposed to the ruinously expensive studio models currently available). e: I cannot stress enough that 'my friend' is not a euphemism, I wish I was that loving limber.

I never considered Super Hot to actually have a plot, more just a general theme and feel. And it felt like a thematically appropriate end, in the sense of "well, done killing now, bye world!". In a different game it might be worth arguing the merits. But in this case, I'm not really fussed if they wanted to change it.

I think the point of the Superhot suicide thing is that suicide hits closer to home for more people than committing cartoon shootings (at least until mass shootings become even more of a common experience). I get the rationale for disabling it. I won't judge if you don't. Not everyone shares the same experiences or has the same feelings about them. Should art forms be systematically scrubbed of uncomfortable subject matters? Well, no, but if the creator feels that it detracts more than it adds, then more power to them.

I haven't paid much attention to porn games on steam; the stuff that makes VaM weird and interesting is the community driven nature of it and the fact that it's not a game and you can barely even call it a framework for making games.

I wonder if we'll hear any announcements on any newer headsets this year? I think the only announcement or reveal this year was the vive stuff, and even then those were aimed at a business segment. 2019 had the index, reverb, rift s, cosmos, quest all come out 2020 had the quest 2, and g2 and 2021 so far has only gotten mention of the new vive I certainly hope we see some more at least reveals this year, a refreshed index, quest pro, renewed microsoft vigor in VR, something.
