I’m not sure if student visas imploded or not but those guys did sometimes do food service jobs. edit: the actual USCIS numbers for 2020 don’t seem to bear out a tremendous change in immigration, so vv Torpor has issued a correction as of 18:41 on Jul 22, 2021 |

Monetary policy is not the solution to inequality lol is the U.S. and China more alike than they think quote:The big contrast between the US and other high-income countries in income inequality, for example, is in the relative absence of redistribution in the former. In some big emerging economies, there is little redistribution, especially in supposedly socialist China. This seems surprising

Looking at the mega droughts, fires, collapsing infrastructure, and climate apocalypse in general. Yeah I am goingto go with never. Like at least within USA there's going to have to be a lot of reshuffling of industries that things probably won't go back to the way they were. well yeah I think the trend going forward is less global. international supply chains are probably going to get less predominate and JIT now has a bloody nose and black eye in just about everybody’s minds. by normal I mean you’ll actually be able to get a container. or you’ll actually get things rather than containers sitting at anchor in ships for months. or drayage companies will actually be able to move something for you without a three + week wait. the system going back to prepandemic I don’t think that’s coming back.

I’ve been working on some trans load projects and warehouses are getting full because of so many disruptions. a container yard I deal with has 500 auto manufacturers containers on lot just sitting there, other warehouses just storing product…

the local neighborhood grocery here is being told by their suppliers that they are having trouble getting stuff in because the major grocery chains are stockpiling shelf stable goods in anticipation of price hikes from manufacturers. cool and good.

So now that China is stockpiling food and the US free market is doing the same, now everyone will have to do it? This is how the economy works right?

I guess it is worth noting that the "manufacturers" in this case are smaller specialty brands because the local neighborhood grocery stocks some fancy poo poo. I guess those are the first that will raise prices tho. still very lol. hope you've got your small batch artisanal bean hoard!

Well the news keeps saying how the farm output is going to be way down this year because of all this climate. So it's probably going to be a bit more than just some specialty brands.
