Was just going off this article from 5 days ago https://www.techspot.com/news/90538-valve-steam-deck-targets-800p-30hz-gameplay-internal.html But fair enough. I'd be happy to learn it's not locked to 30hz but I'm not someone who would use a mobile game thing anyways.

Target != Locked Specs are here. Screen is 60hz. I read it more as they claim a game as playable if it can do at least 30 https://www.steamdeck.com/en/tech

I get wanting to have L/R pickups for stereo but how different is it really going to be when the device is farther from the face than a normal mic and the two mics are so close together.

That's fine. It's so big that I'll mostly be playing it plugged in while in bed/on the couch. Will be in nice to get away from the PC considering I'm on it for 8 hours a day for work.

As someone who grew up perpetually behind the curve on PC stuff, 30fps has always been glorious. I played stuff like Jedi Knight at a fraction of that haha. I can perceive the difference with 60fps, but I really don't care. I really cannot tell at all beyond that. Woo ... my phone apparently does 120Hz ... does not look at all different to me heh.

# ? Jul 29, 2021 02:59 |

The biggest thing with higher refresh rate screen on your phone is that a dropped frame doesn't mean waiting 33ms for the next draw cycle (30hz) it means waiting 8ms (120hz) which smooths out an awful lot of jitter in animations.

Another Eden, Genshin Impact, games where you can actually play them how you want and the paid mechanics are there to nudge you over whatever grind you're facing. Once you start gate keeping progression or manipulating the playing field to require gacha pulls, you're gonna lose your audience pretty quick these days

I started playing the new Nier game, and I am not impressed. It runs very poorly on my device, and the game play isn't really clicking for me.

Running poorly could be the graphic setting, it caps fps depending on what its set at so if you're not running at high or better you're getting poo poo framerate. But yeah the gameplay sucks and the 4* rate is crap. A shame because its real pretty and the music is great.

A Galaxy Trucker question, for anyone out there who's still got it. I am on the mission where the businessman wants an escort to the planet of Silence to meet with the brown aliens. He says ten credits' worth of goods are needed for the trip to be worth it, so not only do we both need to survive the trip, we need cargo. So, that means that my ship needs: a) a buttload of guns to fend off all the pirates and smugglers, as the route's dripping with them b) a buttload of engines and a little luck, because he keeps streaking out in front of me and getting shot to ribbons c) enough cargo space (with a little hazardous cargo space too) to hold 10c in goods d) batteries to power those guns and engines which makes for a very tight fit. But I did it. I finished the adventures with the Businessman limping alongside of me, with 16c of goods in my cargo hold. And he says... "Welp, we don't have enough goods for landing to be worth it. Let's go back." I give up. Does this mean that the _Businessman's_ ship needs to have 10c of cargo in ITS hold, or that we each need 10c, and if it's either of those, how does one force the CPU to pick parts that can _hold_ 10c or to make smart enough choices not to get it blown up or stolen?

I'm pretty sure that it's just that the businessman needs enough cargo. You don't need to worry about forcing him to pick the right parts - if you leave him to his own devices, he'll pretty much pick only cargo and engines. In flight is where the challenge comes in, but it basically boils down to having enough guns to defeat the enemies, and staying ahead of the businessman so that they don't shoot the poo poo out of him before you get there.

I don't seem to be able to affect what thing I can draw in. You don't really get to affect which pets you have besides the one you deem your favorite. Right now I got pets that give me bonuses to stuff I can never seen yet. There is an upgrade tree but it seem more like a just upgrade everything you can instead of choices. I just don't see any real strategy and the idle is really weak. It is more a shallow active game.

Touch power is the damage against boxes, it matters later when you get to boxes with hits in the millions. The boxes further away are the higher value or more difficult so even if you only see the ? you can guess what's in which one. Besides that it's just a cookie clicker game with a looping mechanic, the strategy is making sure you're clicking every upgrade you can always and occasionally deciding which upgrade path to go down in the short term knowing that any money you spend you almost always get back immediately so it doesn't really matter. You can pull the monster you want through the map system or the eggs show up in their biome I believe.

I don't know if someone here brought it up, or I got the suggestion from reddit, but I've been very much enjoying Slice & Dice and wanted to toss it out there for everybody. Firstly, I want to point out that I really dig the pixel art for the game. It's a little gritty and rough and seems to suit the vibe the game is going for pretty well. Dice-based RPG that involves upgrading your party via drops/experience. All combat is done with a D6 with skills that are unique to each character and enemy. Items generally alter sides of the dice and character experience upgrades usually change all 6. Has a pretty robust demo version available to see if it is to your tastes, I believe 7.99 for the full version.

If you're having trouble with the 3D dice disappearing after app sleep trying readjusting the UI and they'll pop back up

Are there any kind of progression systems between runs for Slice and Dice? Playing a bit of the demo and it's a pretty cool game with great art, but generally roguelikes without any sort of progression don't really do it for me past one or two runs.

I enjoyed the demo, but if it's just that forever I'm not really down. But if I can do more with the heros or dice as I do more runs, that's very much my thing.

I've been playing Grand Mountain and having a pretty good time, kind of like the pc game Steep I've read. Explore a mountain with 5 or so ski lifts and do some races or tricks or jumps to unlock them, then move on to a new map. It's a pretty game and fun in short bursts, free with game pass. Worth a try if you like the idea of a skiing game Snowmankilla posted:What map system? You can build a map table that produces random maps that make only 1 or 2 types of crates show up for a couple tries, you can also get these randomly from crates. The game kinda sucks unless you like regularly clicking on menu upgrades like most cookie clickers. It's got cute monsters that might hold you for a few hours but otherwise it's the same old big number loops

I think someone posted it earlier with a warning, but Puzzle Quest 3 is actually really quite fun. Great match-3 with a fuckton of customization, and the ability to run one of every character class (and getting the the same rewards for each character you build). It costs 100 gems to create a new character, but you get that from doing four battles from any character class. There's IAP of course, and not worth the cost/value ratio, but there's also no stamina mechanic, so you can grind as much as you want. Good game.
