Trump’s hand picked acting secdef did not put out that policy for optics. The DCNG letter was issued because Trump’s people knew there would be an attempt on the capitol and they did not want interference. None of Trump’s inner circle get the benefit of the doubt. Ehh, spacex launching poo poo is cool, but most of what they've done is ruin the night sky with Elons' internet satellites. I will watch this rocket blow up on the pad, though. My cousin isn't far from it, so he's going to try to watch it blow up in person.

Musk has famously talked mad poo poo about lidar, which IS what you want so now can't back down because reasons, but it turns out radar is not good for self driving purposes so now it's down to visual only. Radar is good for parking sensors and following other cars and stuff, visual is not really great for anything, and lidar is what you want for real fidelity.
