Can someone give me either an easy source or a quick rundown of the 1989 Tiammen Square protests? From what I understand a good portion of the student movement were actual maoists or communists who just wanted a more transparent social system and less fucky wucky liberalsiation of the economy, not free market america color revolution warriors like the US state media would have you think.

All those statements seem pretty on the nose, not sure why you object to them except that it’s being said by an American dude. Only thing I’d say doesn’t seem right is suggestion that they’re consciously using Imperial GB or post WW2 US as a mode, because those are both very different models of spreading influence and that statement seems overly general without qualifiers/specifics. Are we of the mind here that China… doesn’t want to be more of a world power?

I don’t object to the statements because they come from a big beautiful American I object to them because they are either completely untrue or based on fanciful speculation. I do not disagree with the assessment that China seeks to be “a world power” but that doesn’t mean it is developing into a colonial era empire. One other thing I enjoyed was the part where the US Army described China as having a”horrendous human rights record”. I admit that the fact that the accusation came from an official American troop I had trouble engaging with the claim on its own merits because I was so amazed at the audacity.

I have been saying this for a while. Both china and us tech companies have pretty bad (worst?) work culture. Coincidentally the 2 IT sectors are also most competitive in the world. I am not trying to say unregulated, competitive business WILL create terrible 996, crunch time, work culture. But there has to be some relation. For one thing, they are not being regulated by the domestic governments because they make a lot of money oversea.
