Any idea if you can get both (flu and booster) at the same time? Or is that totally unknown at this point?

Anyway, I have had headaches for the past three days, as well as a light cough. Last night I've gotten some awesome sore throat that's persisted through today.

My littlest, 1 year old, has been a snot factory and has been in general irritable for the past few days. Too young to tell us what's wrong.

I have been masking (no respirator crew) and have been wondering if I should be getting a test and if we should be quarantining.

At the same time, two of the kids go to school starting next week, and it's a "highly recommended but not mandated mask rule" district. So I figure we're going to get it anyway.

I'm at a loss as to what to do. Should I get a test?

Probably

quote:

A vaccine event Sunday at First Timothy Baptist Church Jacksonville will offer all three COVID-19 shots and the flu shot.

But is it safe to get both a coronavirus vaccine and the flu shot at the same time?

Dr. Mohammed Reza, an infectious disease specialist, said the answer to that question has evolved as scientists have learned more about the vaccine, especially the COVID-19 vaccines.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, COVID-19 vaccines and other vaccines “may now be administered without regard to timing.” This includes simultaneous administration of COVID-19 vaccines and other vaccines on the same day, as well as co-administration within 14 days.

“But if you’ve had any history or reaction, talk to your provider, your clinician, and if you have any concerns, waiting that 14-day period wouldn’t do harm,” said Reza said.

Reza said if you’re planning to get both of them, to get the shots in different arms because they can cause some localized pain.

And if you’re choosing one over the other Reza said to get the COVID vaccine.

“It is early in the flu season to get the flu vaccine right now, so if you’re going to get one, or the other, get the COVID-19 for the time being because we’re looking at flu season in September/October and that flu vaccine doesn’t last all year long,” Reza said. “If you’re going to get one, I would get the COVID-19 vaccine for sure.”

Interesting post from Carl Bergstrom about the Israeli observations of decreased efficacy:
https://twitter.com/CT_Bergstrom/status/1427767357808603139?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Each age group considered separately has high effectiveness (>85%), but it declines to 67.% when they're combined. Basically there's a lot of unvaccinated young people that don't get that sick while there's a lot of vaccinated old people that do get sick. Combining the two age groups obscures the fact that the vaccinated do significantly better than the unvaccinated within the corresponding age group. Feels a bit like P-hacking, except there's a robust physical explanation to justify "binning" the data by age.

Yeah I agree it's not p-hacking, and not just because there is a robust physical explanation for binning by age. There is also a robust statistical relationship between age and vaccine efficacy, or age and symptomatic covid more generally. If anything, that relationship is better established than the relationship between time-since-vaccinated and efficacy. So I think this is just bog standard Simpson's paradox.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19 if you’re fully vaccinated?

Here is the current ranking of COVID symptoms after 2 vaccinations:

Headache
Runny nose
Sneezing
Sore throat
Loss of smell

The previous ‘traditional’ symptoms as still outlined on the government website, such as anosmia (loss of smell), shortness of breath and fever rank way down the list, at 5, 29 and 12 respectively. A persistent cough now ranks at number 8 if you’ve had two vaccine doses, so is no longer the top indicator of having COVID.

Curiously, we noticed that people who had been vaccinated and then tested positive for COVID-19 were more likely to report sneezing as a symptom compared with those without a jab.

If you’ve been vaccinated and start sneezing a lot without an explanation, you should get a COVID test, especially if you are living or working around people who are at greater risk from the disease.

Appreciate them telling me at the very least.

This appears to be a form email from their pediatric study site that I filled out back in April, so it probably has no bearing on the study locations I contacted in person to get on the waitlist. However guessing they think they might have enough participants for their expanded phase 3 trial and are telling everyone else they won't be included. If this is true the fact that they're only at this point now is "concerning" for those hoping for a September EUA.
