You can use it as a soft cap to create more cities from the territory you already have or to conquer more cities from the AI.

Yeah, the Holy Site wonders are pretty decent, and I was getting some pretty insane yields from the Statue of Liberty in the one game I played through the Industrial era. On some maps the Library of Alexandria can mean you can reach the new world before caravels, giving you a big head start on colonization.

I'm enjoying it so far. It has its faults, and some rather glaring gaps that I presume are going to be taken up by DLC (religion, diplomacy, spies etc), but it's been a far more enjoyable experience than Civilization VI, and the AI is holding its own very well, even on the normal difficulty. So far there's not been any schizophrenic AI loving and hating me in equal turns, and the addition of point of interest pings by the AI is a neat feature. There's also some nice ideas and features to it that refresh the 4X experience. I'm also loving the graphics and UI. I'm currently playing the Babylons and I have a city sitting on a river that leads to a waterfall down to a lake, whilst behind it is a giant mountain and snowy region with a pass that breaks to the other side of the land. It's very scenic.

Playing on Nation got greedy and built a bunch of pyramids and made two three-territory cities I was making GBS threads out districts so fast my capital was near rebellion and then the Huns came and conquered one of my cities in one turn whoops! Should probably respect my opponents.

Also this super annoyed me:

"I can't wait to climb the many mountains here and map the stars!"
"No. Just this mountain."
"But the other three...?"
"NO."

Did I do something wrong? If not then adjacency only applying to a specific territory is not intuitive. I went Zhou just for this!

I believe that territory that holds the other mountains needs to be connected to the territory with the school in order for it to benefit from those adjacency bonuses.

Yeah. If you attach that territory to the same one with the school it’ll start adding that in. If it’s in your empire but attached to another city it won’t.

Maybe I'm just stuck in Civ days but I stayed with a single cultural group all the way through and never felt hampered. Maybe it gets more necessary to minmax the special quarters but my Babylonian special gave both science and food so I just plopped one everywhere and collected the +10% to score each Era without questioning it. I don't think you would have any issues if you held on to a culture for an extra Era to get the special stuff built up

Question, how do you use forts? Like where to place them to that they can defend an outpost or something. I'd guess it has to be within X tiles of the outpost to ensure it'll be on the battlefield if you have to defend vs ransacking?

You’re giving up on the unique building/unit of the later age. The later the age, the better the bonuses.

The only reason to keep your current culture is if you really NEED to keep your current affinity for the bonus, but the ones from the next age have been snagged. Or don’t exist at all—there are notably zero Militarist cultures in the Contemporary era.

Does that give 50% fuckin food for EVERY CITY I OWN if I build it into my capital which produces absurd amounts of food already?!?!?!

Does it give 50% from output? My output after consumption is 140 so it would be 70 food for EVERY CITY

Or does it give 50% goddamn food from my production which is 420 -> 210 food to every city?!??!?!?!?!!!

Or is the 50% food (70 or 210) divided between all the other cities I own. So if I have 5 other cities every city gets 14 or 42 food?

There is a bug right now where if you need to pick a Tenet for your religion and every one of them in the tiers you have available have already been picked by other Civs, you're hosed and can't end the turn.

Until they patch that, maybe don't play with 10 players, lol.

yeah you stack affinity bonis and keep the new unique units, only thing you give up is the unique quarter (but of course you keep getting new ones). and usually the new unique unit is by far the best thing you can build for that era.

yeah, so what's happening is the flag-colored tiles that show which global-level units are allowed to participate sometimes (i have to stress SOMETIMES this is like once in a dozen battles maybe for me) will have a weird snakey pattern that dodges my other units :v: a good 90% of the time it's a normal shape, the size 3~5 cone in one general direction. but every once in a while it's a very unpredictable shape that doesn't make much sense. and this is on flat terrain not like a hilly area or mountain pass.

e: now that i'm thinking about it, thats probably because i attack cities 10% of the time and they might exert some kind of zone of control that prevents enemies next to them from spawning, or maybe it's their walls

i really like the effect elevation has on city placement and battle strategy lol

honestly i like the micro-level combat control much better here than i did in endless legend. that stank but this is sensible and responsive. and it doesn't have unit equipment micro! i feel like i'm doing all right, i've won a few major wars against weaker enemies but my biggest trade partner just evolved into the Huns. good thing i took Persians and have Immortals :unsmigghh:

i don't know about $60 but if you can get it on gmg or wherever for 40, 45 i'd say that's a good price for this game.

I paid 35€ for the game, game seems good. I don't like cities and districts in civ6 but here I can make only a couple of manageable sized cities and armies stack on each other (thank god) etc. So much less micro than in civ6..

Depsite what it says on the description, it's not that good in practice. It divides 50% of the city's surplus across all your other cities - a city that produces 300 food, eats 200 food and has 5 other cities gives those cities 20.

Has anyone found out what a "calm" city is? I've been assuming they mean "settled" (90+ stability) but nowhere does it seem to state it.

build your emblematic quarters and try to pick up an expansionist civ early on. persia did not lead me astray, but it doesn't have to be them; you can always take a civ with a unique quarter that either actively or passively .

you could go faith, too: if you can get and spread an early religion, there's a powerful civic you can take to give you a lot of influence just for having a lot of territory that follows your core religion. there just isn't much in the way of options outside of these methods until you research feudalism for the district that produces influence. it sounds like you can go the way you went too and just kill fuckin everybody and you don't NEED to spend influence. as long as you can get your snowball going.
