I am feeling really angry and just want to vent. I am privileged enough to have good health insurance and enough of a savings cushion to handle any minor medical setbacks. My girlfriend isn't so lucky. She has a medical issue that may require surgery and just spent a couple of days in the hospital because of it. She's at her out of pocket maximum for the year on her garbage insurance plan but is not going to be able to get the care she needs this year most likely, because of all the unvaccinated selfish assholes in the hospitals causing non emergency but nonetheless important care to be delayed. So because of these jerks, she not only has to put off crucial but technically non emergency care, but whenever she does get it it's going to cost her thousands of dollars more because it is going to happen in a new calendar year. This story is happening all over the country and it is enough to make me want to call up my nutjob unvaccinated mom and just scream as loudly as I can at her until I run out of voice.

About half of my wife's family are still unvaccinated and their excuses run from "I just don't think I need it" to "it's got the mark of the beast" depending on who you talk to. We've told them we'll see them when they get vaccinated. My wife's Dad has basically stopped talking to us but her Mom keeps asking if we want to come up to their house. Yeah, when they're vaxxed. I keep hoping this will eventually sink in but we're been trying for about 4 months at this point with no luck.

People are pre-emptively freaking out and cancelling their memberships because apparently we're requiring vaccinations for all our events (we just said we're using the certificates, go to the department of health to see how to get one) and others are complaining that the tests cost so much money it's not fair to require them. It makes me so happy because I don't want any of these kind of people at my event! Don't like it? So re: the totally foreseeable goalpost moving by people who still won’t get the Pfizer shot because “the trials normally take a few years and they rushed this” — isn’t the timeline of vaccine trials heavily impacted by the disease’s prevalence? You obviously need enough time to be able to compare the vaccine and placebo groups, but that’s a lot easier when the disease in question is as common as covid is. Were any other parts of the trial accelerated as well? Is there a valid medical reason not to rapid test for Covid? I ask because my under-12 niece just tested positive, and they did they didn't rapid test her. I can't imagine why you wouldn't want a rapid test for young kids who can't be vaxxed and have to attend school.

Florida has changed the way they're reporting covid deaths and instead of listing each new death as they're detected (as has usually been the case everywhere) they've instead started backdating them to when the deaths occurred, and since it takes quite a while for the death certificates etc to get processed there's a HUGE lag and their current covid deaths graph looks like this: Whoo, things are going great!! The rapid tests I think are more meant if you're testing every day for whatever reason, eventually it's likely to ping and across a population it'll help quite a bit. But individual risk wise it's not especially helpful. I ordered two of the Amazon PCR tests for my folks https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08ZR5XNBM and they locked down for 10 days before they visited, and took the test 3 days before they came. It comes with a paid overnight shipping label and you just drop it in a UPS box.The results showed up about 6 hours after it arrived at the lab.
