I don't know if I ever got a happy meal. We usually went to Wendy's for fast food. But t every now and then we'd go to Mc shits and my mom would ask me what I wanted and I'd always be like 'uhhh I Dunno just get me a happy meal or something'. I wanted that goddam toy but for 'reasons' to didn't just ask (or insist) on a happy meal so I'm pretty sure I've never had one ever. .did go to a mc shits birthday party back in the 80s though.

My folks still have one and still use it. Huge fire hazard. We didn't use the butter tray, we just melted butter on the stove. It's lazy as far as I'm concerned. My grandpa, in the early 80's, always made popcorn on the stove top. So much more fire danger. It was better. Always served with fudge that my grandma made. This was not "Movie Night" or anything like that. We'd sit around and tell stories until 3 in the morning. Far more fun than watching some movie. Everyone should try doing "Story Night" instead of "Movie Night." Everyone has good stories to tell. Would you rather watch a movie with Bruce Willis phoning it in... Or hear about that time my mom was followed around Times Square in the late 60's by an insane person covered in bandages head to toe and she couldn't lose him on the subway so she had to lose him in a Library bathroom. Or how about the time my Grandma partied with Trotsky at Frida Kahlo's house? Or about how my (other) Grandpa kicked the crap out of a Feldwebel for stealing food and didn't get hanged for striking a superior because he was clever. Don't worry, he wasn't a NAZI. He was conscripted in Serbia, he fled to the US. Never had to fight. A very complicated story. About 50 pages. Far better stories than an old bald man taking any job he can get just to be on film. I'm looking at you Bruce Willis. Shame. Well, that went off on a tangent. One day, I'll write all this stuff down. It's all verbal with the exception of my Serbian Grandfather. He did write it down, but it needs a re-write as he uses a lot of wrong words and wrong everything in English. I can read it. Other's can't. The brutal blanket party for the Feldwebel is a good one though. Pretty short. Sarge stole food, the privates gave him a beat down. Meine Ota admitted it. He was only stripped of all rank. Sarge went to Russia and was most definitely killed in combat. Sad thing. It was early in '45. Now there's another good story about my great-grandfather who ended up in a concentration camp at the very end of the war but that's another tale.

You shoved some ice cubes in the hole and then turned a crank in the back and something inside (probably a blade or something else similarly dangerous) would shave off bits of them as it spun around. Once you had enough you used the little shovel to extricate the slush into the cup, then you aimed for a 50/50 mix of Kool-Aid concentrate "flavoring" and ice to get a sugar rush. Or at least I did. Also the little Snoopy with the Devo hat was a plunger you had to push down to mash the ice cubes against the grater wheel

I was in a Hobby Lobby last week (how much are train sets? JESUS CHRIST!) and they still have the good ol' Snoopy Snow Cone Maker. When I get the hankering for some shaved ice now I just hit up a food truck downtown for a half-gallon for like $2, but as a kid I tore that thing up.

This is a cool thing, because as a 80s kid and a 90s teen, i have no connection to the teen culture of the 80s outside of what i've seen in media, which based on 90s media about teens, i know is full of poo poo. What kids were actually putting on mix tapes to listen to while they got drunk and high and hosed is very interesting. Or played D&D and watched Star Trek reruns, i dunno, whatever you did back then.

Oh, well! I do remember an article, maybe it was an interview or one of his infamous opinion pieces, in which he laid out the price structure for recording bands; there were some that would pay, like, a dollar, and others he would happily milk for every penny. And yeah, I loving loved Two Nuns and a Pack Mule but that band name was indefensible. "No, no, it's not what it sounds like, it's from a Japanese comic about this guy who ... huh, it's exactly what it sounds like."

Maybe I have the dissenting opinion here but the only album I can think of that I'd say Albini "ruined" is PJ Harvey's "Rid of Me": even her self-recorded demos are better versions of those songs. IMHO. Otherwise I'd say he's recorded an astounding percentage of the best rock albums of the last 40 years. You're right that he doesn't call himself a "producer". He fills that role, but his credit usually says "recorded by", and for many years now people have sought him out because they already want that sound. He also doesn't charge exorbitant fees relative to his status. I think last I heard he charges something like $800 a day and that's including using his studio. Despite his prickly image he also does a ton of children's charity work on the down low. Like literally answering local kids letters to Santa kinda stuff. He's like Moe reading 'Little Women' at the Children's Hospital. Personally I think he sounds best when he's recording either acoustically driven music or huge metal, like the albums he did with High on Fire and Neurosis.

I would blanch a little bit at paying a $150 for essentially a replica of a watch that practically came free with boxes of cereal back in the day, especially when I paid about that much for a Fossil smartwatch. Of course that one probably has more than a 6 hour battery life, unlike my Fossil.
