I bought a 2020 Niro EV EX last night, I like it so far. A few questions: 1) What sort of level 2 home charging solutions should I be considering? I do have someone who can help me install a 220 outlet in my garage, but aside from that I know nothing. 2) I can’t figure out the interior lighting. I don’t mean the Ambient Lighting feature - I’m pretty sure only the Premium gets that - but just the normal backlighting for things like the steering wheel, stereo, A/C, etc. The window controls in the door have a red backlight, but nothing else, which makes me think this might be an electrical issue, unless it’s an weird option in the settings that I haven’t found yet.

You may want to get a second charger to leave in the garage, just for convenience. I personally preferred the look and reduced opportunities to hurt myself with a hardwired charger (ie one that doesn't plug into an outlet) but that seems to be a minority opinion in this thread, at least among people who care enough to express an opinion. Congratulations!

https://electrek.co/2021/08/23/ford-doubles-electric-f-150-lightning-production-plan-and-its-still-not-enough/quote:Ford’s new plan includes a ramp to 15,000 vehicles in 2022, 55,000 in 2023, and 80,000 in 2024. Ford will then target 160,000 vehicles in 2025 when the second-generation Lightning hits the road, which will be developed on Ford’s new electric-only TE1 platform (as opposed to the current Lightning which uses a modified F-150 platform). We do not yet know if they plan to continue increasing production after 2025 (but they’d better). I think I'm gonna end up just getting the hybrid this year. My current car is starting to poo poo itself

I was curious how Ford's ramp compared to the rollout of the Model 3, and looked up how that ramp actually went. The first 30 production deliveries occurred on July 28 2017, according to Bloomberg they hit 15,000 deliveries by April 2018 and were at 50,000 delivered by the anniversary. So all joking aside even if they follow the poor ramp up of the 3 they might handily be beating Ford.

The F150 EV wasn't just for the EV part and the DIY uses I have for it - it's also to replace the generator I have sitting in my house right now as a hedge against the state of Texas actively trying to kill me by cutting off my power. With the state of EV production as reported and the inevitable dealer markups I might as well use my Costco membership to get a discounted hybrid and hope my DCT won't completely poo poo itself in the next 6 months

But most people buying an F150 are buying it because of how it looks instead of what it can do, and a cybertruck is not a look these people want to have.

As far as I know the factory where the Cybertruck is being built is still under construction and the batteries required to hit the listed specs are still not able to be produced in sufficient quantities.

Same, I haven't seen anything different. The 4680 cells are still a no-show. Plaid+ wasn't canceled because nobody "needed" that much power/range, it was canceled because the 4680 production lines and structural pack to make it possible do not exist. (There might be single digits Plaid+ hardware prototypes in existence, but nothing suitable for mass production.) I believe it is a issue that will be solved eventually and Tesla will at some point get 4680 cell production to ramp up to astronomical levels, but I wouldn't trust any ETAs I see here or anywhere else until they actually get a proper mass production line up to speed/yield.

I can’t believe the Mach-e GT review embargo still hasn’t been lifted but I think this week is when they’re going to start getting delivered to customers in serious numbers so maybe tomorrow? Really want to see some 0-60 and 1/4 numbers and reviews of the magneride suspension.

So this is interesting: I bought my Niro on Saturday, only to find out when I got home that it's missing the EVSE. No big deal - it was late, we were literally the last people in the building, everyone (including us) wanted to just go home. Easy to forget. So I call yesterday and they say they'll have someone contact me early this morning about getting one out to me. But just now I found a Slack thread about local EV charging (our company has lots of charging stations in the parking decks) and see a guy bitching about ...his new Nissan Leaf missing its EVSE. They told him it would be a quick order, but long story short it took three weeks for them to get him an OEM charger. He has a Leaf and I have Kia, but the same company owns both dealerships. I'm wondering if I go out to craigslist will I find a bunch of EVSEs for sale? 🤔 jackpot fucked around with this message at 14:48 on Aug 30, 2021 |

This thing is just ridiculous. I love it. Tesla has the car buying process that everyone should strive towards, we weren't in the dealership for more than 15 minutes from the time we walked in to the time I was driving it off the lot. Went straight from picking up to the tint place and have a ceramic coat scheduled for tomorrow. Everyone I took for a ride in it just laughs at the stupid acceleration lol

mattfl posted:This thing Congratulations! Welcome to "Team Blue". Yes, I remember buying my first car from a Nissan dealer, it took about three hours, a lot of busy forms with tons of fine print to sign, and multiple different people we had to go back and forth with. Picking up my Model 3 Performance was so different, I show up, look over the car a bit, sign exactly two pieces of paper and then "It is yours, you can go whenever you are ready. Enjoy!". It took me longer to eat a snack then configure all my preferences/logins/phone key and accessories in the car than it did to handle all the dealership stuff. Also same reaction of everyone just laughing at the stupid acceleration. Now granted, there are also a bunch of busy documents you go through with Tesla as well, the difference is you handle pretty much all of them online days before the delivery at your own pace and they don't all show up at once.

mattfl posted:This thing Congrats! I got the long range (also blue) and it has slightly-less-but-still-stupid acceleration for a crossover. How was the build quality? I’m with you on the delivery experience. I spent ~4 hours at the dealership the last time I bought a car, and was in and out of the Tesla “store” in about 20 minutes. I still think they need to come up with a non-self-service method of handling the order/EDD watching/loan application/etc., if they want to expand from the “fairly technically literate” demographic to a wider market.
