Thanks Spangly for the explanation on the last page of the previous thread. And I didn't think you were having a go Red Oktober, sometimes i find it worth clarifying when I'm asking something necause I'm confused and when I'm asking as a rhetorical thing. The main thing that continues to confuse me was why she brought it over from NZ in the first place. Do they breed them in the UK? Couldn't she have bought a UK one? Why import it from NZ if there's such a risk of it getting merced? This is just that classic thing of right wingers being so self obsessed that they can't comprehend that people might be taking vaccines, wearing masks, etc to protect others and not just themselves. Also on the alpaca front: when I was a kid there used to be adorable wild ponies in my village that would wander up to for scritches and try to beg bread of you if you were walking back from the bakers. When foot and mouth happened they rounded up all the cute ponies, shot them, and burned them on a big pyre. So gently caress anyone who tries to bypass quarantine and animal health regulations because it results in dead ponies and crushes my childhood innocence.

I saw one of those white rose stickers in the car park of a very small and obscure nature reserve near my house the other day. It was more ambiguous than the one ITT, and while I immediately suspected anti vax, I nurtured some small hope that it might be something cool and / or good.

I saw one on a pole that said something like “Asymptomatic? Isn’t that just another word for healthy?” - with a smug looking doctor who looked a bit like hide the pain Harold. At least I think that’s what it said, some sensible person had scratched most of it away Truly, the virus/vaccine understanders have got access to a sticker machine

People were being loving idiots about vaccines long before the internet, with basically exactly the same arguments: (see also anti-mask protests in the 1917-1919 flu pandemic) Blaming it on Russia and China is just liberals killing two birds with one stone by saying that the perfectly spherical frictionless voter of their dreams exists, and also lets them keep up the military-industrial-espionage complex money printer, because the SCARY FOREIGNERS are why people are screaming about mole children, rather than it being the natural outcome of the last 40 years of politics and economics.

defra and the agencies they work through have a seemingly well earned reputation for largely ignoring massive agricultural firms and the litany of sins they commit in favour of going after people with little means to defend themselves, nice to see something contrary to that for once lol at the idea of publicly threatening to shoot government employees and not getting arrested, being that rich must be a real trip

There's a pretty good chance that the Labour conference in late September will either be cancelled or will have a picket outside of it from Unite and GMB workers so no, Starmer will not soon start looking like a PM in waiting soon after. The left refuses to back a literal anti-worker party and the right wing make jokes about how the Labour Party doesnt even have to be in power to cause industrial action these days.
