Yeah, but I first heard him as the Blur guy. Never knew his name until about 30 minutes ago.

I was watching a Murder She Wrote recap (Pushing Up Roses) and kept thinking, "I've seen that actor before. Who is he?" Then it hit me: Jessica Fletcher's doctor friend in the earlier (?) series is the same actor who played Commodore Matt Decker in the original Star Trek episode "The Doomsday Machine". It took me an embarrassing amount of time for me to figure that out.

La-La Land is a nickname for Los Angeles. I watched that whole musical movie and everything but it didn’t register until just now when someone used the phrase in season 1 of American Horror Story.

Santana was always boring. Just listen to Steely Dan, who have the advantage of not sounding at all like Santana

Hyperlynx posted:Well, after your sudden attack of bad opinions has passed, I hope you're feeling better. To be fair, that is quite a catchy song. From a guitarist perspective, Santana has always sounded kind of wack to me - I've never heard him play a line that wasn't pulled straight from the pentatonic box shapes, and he doesn't seem to play over the changes, just mid-tempo noodling with all the bends and ornamentation landing exactly where you would expect. Doesn't offend me, but I think at this point you could probably train a neural network to procedurally generate Santana solos and you'd never know the difference. Still, there's worse stuff out there, at least the dude can play and his tone is decent. I imagine it would have been cool to drop strong acid and freak out in a mud puddle to this in 1970.

If you don't pay attention at the Chinese grocery and buy raw peanuts, you get something that tastes more or less like other legumes and, imo, not very nice.

I've never even seen a raw peanut and don't even know what I'd expect them to be, I'd probably buy some just for the novelty.

I'm considering looking up how to oven roast them. Or just chucking them out. Maybe I could boil some and see if they're any better than raw?... Also, I was thinking that the nice thing about Santana just playing pentatonic stuff is that it makes it much easier to work out by ear if you're a relative novice like me Also also, it took me aaaaaaaages before I learnt that the guy singing isn't Carlos Santana but another guy. I did wonder why he didn't have a Mexican accent.

Look up some recipes online, I like the Cajun ones. They take a while to do, though. 2-8 hours but the longer you let them boil the better. Or you can use a slow cooker (my preferred) but those take even longer.

Boiled peanuts take ages and that green flavor of raw peanuts never really goes away. They're good but a lot of work to find out you don't like them. Fried peanuts are great though.

How you people never eat a raw peanut? I guess I'm now figuring out that maybe American kids don't get peanuts in the shell as a terrible bag-stuffer along with their Hallowe'en candy

I've never seen a peanut in the shell but most peanuts I've eaten in my life have been "raw" (actually ripe but anyway). Usually with raisins around Yule.
