AngryRobotsInc posted:Hampton Roads is crazy humid sometimes. If the moisture proofing isn't up to snuff, stuff is going to go real moldy real quick. Oh geeze, we had mold in our house and the landlord had to cut a chunk of the wall out and replace it. They should probably just sacrifice the haus to the spores and get out while they have their lungs

I would honestly be not at all surprised to find the stuff on the siding is just surface level visible stuff, and that the interior of the walls are turbo hosed. I've seen poorly done stuff just absolutely eaten up by mold, to the point where it would probably be more efficient to just burn it to the ground and start fresh.

My experience with home DIYers is that "looks right" is always going to be good enough and 3 years later when it's falling apart from normal wear and tear they'll yell about people being too rough on the floor/fixtures/sinks etc.

Yeah how it usually goes with mold issues, if the mold is visible to you outside of the wall, you don't want to know what it looks like inside the wall.

I recently saw mold growing on steel racking, which had me in full “oh, gently caress, it’s everywhere” mode. If you see that you basically have a cronenberg movie happening inside your walls and ventilation system.

When we lived in Guam, a friend of ours down the street went to hang a picture right after they moved in. She hit the nail and half the wall collapsed.

We lived in a particularly bad shithole with a slumlord landlord for a bit. "...poo poo, there's mold on the bathroom tiling. That's....not good." And then the bathroom floor started collapsing into the open foundation!

Groverhaus transcended SA like, six or seven years ago, so chances are that's just some random person who lives in eastern VA and discovered the location of Groverhaus for the first time.

Can't think of anything better I'd want to do with my limited time on this planet than seek out and physically visit some shoddily constructed house in the middle of the literal smelly asscrack of the United States built by some stupid rear end in a top hat who has all but disappeared from the slimmest sliver of relevance he once held and then document and publish proof of my doing so.

Groverhaus still makes me laugh but going to a stranger's house and taking pics and even stealing parts of their garden is creepy and utterly pathetic.

A lot of the funniness of groverhouse comes from the fact that it was so obviously stupid but no one was allowed to make fun of it because Grover was a mod. It was only once GBS 2.0 happened that people were allowed to make jokes about it. It's still funny to outsiders, but realistically the whole thing is a elaborate goon injoke. It's still funny, but only in retrospect.
