Some of the dead cedars I've taken down the last couple of years have had a 12% moisture content in the middle of winter. I didn't think it was possible to reach that level of moisture outside a kiln. California is even worse, although probably different species involved. Someone posted an article in the last thread where researchers were measuring forest floor detritus with 2% moisture content, absolutely insane. Even outside the lack of natural small burns to reduce forest litter these aren't the same forests we had even a few decades ago. On the bright side we have a system going through dumping huge amounts of rain on us. Rainfall and flash flood warnings up, along with B.C. Hydro warning that trees killed in the beginning of summer heat wave are expected to come down with the wind and rain and cut off our power. Guess we're joining California with two seasons: fire and mud. Time find the candles and put a pot of beans on the stove. It's fun to talk to old fishermen about how this ain't normal.
