Another thing about that article that stands out to me is how unsubtly it switches to phrases like "China Flu" or "Trump Vaccine" to tell the readers how they should feel about things. Like, it isn't trying to orient to discourse around those terms or anything, it literally switches to them mid-sentence when it's trying to make a point. I can't tell if the writer thinks the readers are idiots or if that's just how Right Wing people talk. Or both, perhaps.

My dad used to run a right-wing "news" site long before the party went full batshit. They've always done this, but that article is a great example of how it's degenerated. Like they've always done that sort of sloppy phrase-switching "this is how you must think" but the level of education tat the writing targets has absolutely fallen into a dumpster and lit it on fire. Before, people like this jackass wrote for people like them and for people who wanted to aspire to be like them--racist dirtbags but ones with some pretending to education or erudition. While I remember people being racist against East Asians in general and the Chinese in particular for my whole life (I'm 33) I definitely think it's changed in its nature/style/tone. When I was a child and a teenager it was more your typical American chauvinism; the Chinese are a backwards and weird people who eat dogs and cats and make crappy and inferior products. They also are poor and starving and living under the brutal thumb of communism. Maybe because everything was so focused on the threat of Islam but for most of my teen years I don't really remember anyone by and large talking about China as though it were a real threat to the US. More like Iran at worst; a place that is our enemy but would be no match for us if we brought our power to bear against them. It was only really in the Obama years that I recall hearing people talk about China as a genuine existential threat and the new USSR. And that rhetoric definitely ramped up wildly under Trump, and then more-so when COVID happened. And even under Obama I recall most of the internet racism and the stuff you'd see on 4chan being more just about how the Chinese are soulless insect-people who eat pets and leave people to die in the streets. Just go to 4chan now - or the GBS thread - and see how they talk about China and the Chinese. That's the predominant racism I recall. But I mean, I'm a white-ish guy from New York so maybe people in other parts of the US, and especially Chinese-Americans, have a different experience. But I definitely feel that while bigotry and racism against the Chinese has a history going back decades and even centuries, that the sort of real intense literal fear and hatred we're seeing now is only a decade or two old. EDIT: Plus of course your general background radiation of bigotry and racism against East Asians with high intelligence and their women being sexy and submissive. I also recall most of my childhood and teen years having people being unable to distinguish China from Japan. I mean, hell, Blizzard in the early 2000s didn't realize they were different countries. I honestly can't help but wonder if having even your average idiot American knowing that China and Japan are not the same thing isn't a consequence of the popularity of anime.

Yeah to clarify: anti-asian (and specifically Chinese) racism has always been a thing, but it seems to have had a major resurgence over the last 10 or so years. And there's always been the "all Asians look the same!" stereotype, along with idiots being unable to tell Chinese from Japanese from Korean. And that's not even counting the "smaller" Asian countries they've never heard of like the Philippines or Malaysia.
