I got a request for the thread, does anyone have some non-white commoners? in European or non-European styled garb is fine, as long as they look like unremarkable commoners.

Anybody got any good Medusa images. Preferably with a snake lower half and actually monstrous rather than fashion model with a few snakes for hair. I'm thinking 1981 clash of the titans, but I don't want to just use a movie still. Bonus, drider or other centaur like version of same.

Anyone seen any good takes on Red Dragons with battle damage/old wounds/scars? I've been fiddling with inspiration from early Salt in Wounds but with some number of Red Dragons being held instead of The Tarrasque. One managed to escape, pushing the game forward as the party was responsible both for nearly taking it down and for releasing its last lock ("surely the dragon will understand and appreciate this gesture -- oh no") So yeah, Red Dragons (or dragons in general, I can edit color or convert to grayscale) with scars, broken chains/manacles, that sort of thing?

This might be late but the Knights of Vasteel stuff is pretty good for this. I'm not sure if you can get the character pictures off of anywhere but Roll20 right now, but: https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/publisher/233/knights-of-vasteel Deptfordx posted:Anybody got any good Medusa images. Loved this so much I used it for theme-setting earlier tonight and now I have players Very Concerned about this identified-as-Named-and-magical helm +1 with a sentience present that's unknowable without wearing it. They put it on one of the (player) necromancer's surviving skeletons (2/4 became statues) which was only given the commands "stand here" and "stand up and speak" (D&D skeletons are not capable of speech). After nothing came of that, the barbarian ripped the helmet off of the skeleton, after which its skull plopped out. The mystery and tension of The Obsidian Visage continues to the next session Thank you so much for posting such a badass inspirational picture. Going with "emotional amplifier" as a two-word summary for the sentience's primary agenda/ability, with the intensity of the upward-flowing cape effect directly correlating to how emotionally amplified the wearer is. It is currently in a bag carried by the Berserker Barbarian.

My girlfriend is looking for art inspiration for her first character. This is the description she gave me. Anyone got anything? Ohh. Ok! Old but not feeble, strong and determined, female, tomboyish, poor and a bit rough in speech and mannerisms. Long, long silvering messy braided hair wrapped around her crown. Cleric with some sort of staff. Sharp eyes, practical, straight forward bordering on rude but playful.

This guy did a whole series of spacer shanties for the Star Wars universe: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqoGeloRGYqd19f_ABoG6CpZKU9rWVZZV "Dawson's Christian" by Duane Elms is a classic of the genre if there is such a thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MAkLDoLVpk. There have been covers and rewrites, notably by Vixy & Tony: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjxMieuRPe4 but I think my favorite version is by Carmen Miranda's Ghost: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyVuuXUR7Lc. Here's a group whose schtick is pretty much what you're looking for. They're pretty good in general. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiXQ49sxOpG6WKrjE7P_KGg/featured There are other examples (since it's a decent idea) but honestly most are kinda lovely con-filk grade and I've not bothered saving most of the ones I listened to when I went digging a few months ago.

Carmen Miranda's Ghost is the album in this case I should mention, the artists for it is Leslie Fish and Vic Tyler. A great album I think it was my first real exposure to Filk music. And then at some point later I got a friend hooked to that album as well. Cooked Auto fucked around with this message at 12:34 on Mar 6, 2022 |

Not shanties by any means, but if you're going for background music in space you can't go wrong with Gustav Holst's The Planets: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Isic2Z2e2xs Written a century ago, before the discovery of Pluto, so it's still accurate! Also the first movement (Mars) has been used all over the place. My personal memory of it was that it was the intro music for Escape Velocity: Nova. stringless fucked around with this message at 13:18 on Mar 7, 2022 |
