Did Cenk just drop that apropos of nothing? Also has anyone said Cenkum? indigi posted:in what way? they’re using collectivist policies to reduce or eliminate the spread of covid from communities. just cause they’re liberal democracies doesn’t mean they’re incapable of suppressing individualism in emergency situations I guess it's this bit I disagree with. Stephen Cohen was an establishment liberal until he was pretty much exiled from US mainstream media when he went against the consensus on the Ukraine coup. He was married to the hieress that bankrolled The Nation and supported perestroika. It's not really surprising that he hung out with liberals in Russia. Mark Ames and John Dolan have referenced Novaya Gazeta somewhat approvingly a few times. From what I remember, Ames has described Novaya Gazeta as western-oriented liberals, but they do care about independent journalism put out some well researched pieces. I think Beeley specifically has beef with the Grayzone crew because they had a bad analysis of Syria for the first few years of the war. So she snipes at them when she can. https://twitter.com/VanessaBeeley/status/1222374353309962240?s=20 https://twitter.com/VanessaBeeley/status/1172850642437726208?s=20

Blumenthal quit a job with a long public twitter screenshot because some of the reporters there were "Assadists", include Sharmine Narwani. Then him and Ben Norton deleted a bunch of their old tweets when the Grayzone decided to pivot into the correct position on Syria a few years later.

True posters never delete old posts, so the Grayzone guys aren't true posters. They did do podcasts explaining how they stopped being bad with regards to Syria. They don't advertise how they were wrong, but it's not really a coverup either. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE-jNckM-zw Max is wrong about COVID right now, so it's not a super shocking thing to happen.

It's okay for people's positions to change over time. I don't know about the post deletions but you can still find Max being angry at people for being assadists online.

Atrocious Joe posted:True posters never delete old posts, so the Grayzone guys aren't true posters. This is interesting to me. I guess I'm relatively new to the greyzone because for as long as I've been reading them they have had their current position on Syria. I guess it isn't a coverup but deleting tweets doesn't sit well with me. It's probably not a big deal though. I agree with you that Blumenthal's stance on covid is a bit off right now. I might be biased since I read the covid thread regularly and my job has me pretty exposed to covid.

Government like that of the US have demonstrated time and again that they're incapable of (or unwilling to) responsibly lock down by providing at least a temporary basic income for everyone, and then some sort of federal hazard pay for doctors, nurses, grocers, emts, whathaveyou that a modern society cannot function without. Instead we got "work from home if you can, sucks if you gotta show up to the factory to pull the lever that makes the widget but ![]() like, when max and jimmy and such say stuff like the american people can't take another lockdown...they're right. we can't take another lockdown that's just a repeat of the last lockdown that just hosed a lot of working class people over. definition of insanity, you know the trope.

I think the fact that this has become something of a culture war issue is what makes it hard for me to understand. I can accept Blumenthal's anti-lockdown stance because he correctly understands that any lockdown the government would impose would probably not provide people with the necessary resources to lock down, like just paying people money to stay home for a few months. Everyone posting here in this thread knows that there's almost no chance of that happening right now. It's frustrating to me because I don't know what his alternative is, especially when he's critical of things like masks in school because in my experience the students don't really seem to care. If he has pushed an alternative and I missed it then my bad.

indigi posted:Jimmy was also pushing ivermectin and saying mRNA vaccines don’t work It might not be a popular stance but my understanding is that ivermectin can help with covid symptoms when prescribed. I wouldn't rely on it because you still have to get covid which seems less than ideal to me because it's so new. edit: I want to be clear that I am 100% posting in good faith here. This covid poo poo is really important and also really complicated and it's important to me that I get this right so if I'm wrong I need to know.
