Underwater is a three dimensional space, and the ocean is impossibly loving big, it would be exceedingly unlikely for someone to deploy a manmade underwater obstacle like that. Far more likely to have a less than perfectly accurate read on where exactly you are and smack into a seamount.

Surprisingly lovely, there's really only 2, so they're giant labyrinths, workout equipment is the typical fast attack bullshit setup you described (VAs are the same). These boats are weird, really fat, but they make up for it by being short, all the racks are like 1.5" shorter than an LA or a VA for example, I swear these boats were designed by people that wanted sailors to suffer.

It was full of Garfield phones.

Oh boy it's time to apply for billets with the Reserve. Found the perfect billet (meet all the requirements E6,clearance,NEC's) with a unit I've supported in the past, got multiple awards from and the civilian side they support has requested I come back.

So I probably wont get it and will be stuck for a few more years with an unit that doesnt do anything productive.

Gotta polish up a package and send it to them and hope I rise to the top over other possible applicants.

So he sent me a picture of what they were talking about it, there is a thing called a payback computation table.

Milpersman page 470 says this:
C. Payback for disenrolled members
members who are disenrolled from

-service schools A, C, and F
-Special programs NF, AEF and ATF 6-year obligor programs or
-5-year obligor programs
Shall have their obliserve adjusted under this article, provided they have no accepted accelerated advancement. Such adjustment will be referred to as payback.

it then says to refer to chart 10 J

But 10 J says the chart only applies to NF/AEF/ATF program disenrollment which would not apply to him. There is no other chart for payback besides for those 3 programs. Unless I'm completely misunderstanding and he does fall under that chart despite is saying he doesn't, he received 25 weeks of instruction which would be 17 months of payback if for whatever reason that applied to him.

After that there's administrative procedures that are supposed to take place after someone drops from one of those programs to adjust their extension by adding on the "payback".

K. admininstrative procedures. Upon receipt of approval from NAVPERSCOM (PERS-811), CO's or officers in charge will make sure that the new extension agreement is executed, the old extension is agreement cancelled.

But considering his PRD and EAOS both still match November of next month which is what his original extension was, I can only think of a few scenarios.

Either this instruction does not apply to him at all and he's being mislead either purposely or because he's got idiots telling him the wrong things.

OR

It applies to him and whoever(the CO) was supposed to adjust his extension to add on the payback because he dropped out but did not do so. So maybe they caught it way too late and are trying to cover for themselves by getting him to reenlist because they dropped the ball?

Sorry if this is long and rushed but they are apparently really pushing this poo poo on him in a hurry. He wants to get out and I don't wanna see him spend another 2 years hating his life because he got bad info.

*kramers into the thread*

Saw something crawl across the ticker for Merchant Marine,

TW: assault victim describing sexual assault/rape during her Sea Year

https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/11/business/maersk-rape-investigation-merchant-marine/index.html

Sea Year may be getting suspended again because crews can't keep their hands off female cadets. The US federal government doesn't really have a way to actually enforce compliance with the zero tolerance sexual assault mandate, right? Considering there's a very small amount of US flagged carriers out there, I guess they could stop putting cadets on non-US flagged vessels.

I'd ask the question "how hard is it to not be loving rapey" but the answer is apparently "very hard indeed" :negative:

What. The. Hell.

And after talking to no less than 50 other female USMMA grads, all of them had been harrassed, assaulted or degraded during their time in USMMA. It doesn't specify whether that occurred on campus or during their at sea year while with a crew, but that's pretty loving godawful, and wild that it's just now hitting the news.

quote:

The woman behind the blog post wrote that of more than 50 women in her senior class at the academy, she has "not spoken to a single one of those women who has told me that she has not been sexually harassed, sexually assaulted, or degraded at some point during the last 3 years at the Academy or during Sea Year. Most people, and even the leaders of our school, do not seem to understand how serious this problem is, especially at sea."

Well apparently USMMA Sea Year only sends cadets to US-flagged vessels, so this was all happening on US flagged ships, and would definitely have impacts on those carriers US flagged operations (as small as those are since the vast majority of shipping happens under flags of convenience, I guess it would gently caress up someone if they had some Jones Act shipping gig) . Now whether the USMMA takes any of this poo poo seriously remains to be seen, but who knows, maybe they'll do something since this hit a major news site and got exposed to the non-mariner populace.
