Do you get a bap before dogging and risk turning up with some ketchup stains down yourself, do you bring it in case they want a bite as a cheeky mid-shag snack, or do you go for a bap together afterwards? It's a social minefield quite frankly. I think it depends on the hand-washing facilities available. Nobody wants to go dogging on a full stomach, but at the same time after a session I'd *definitely* want to wash at least my hands before handling food.

Last night to the flicks. All war films. One very good one of a ship full of refugees being bombed somewhere in the Mediterranean. Audience much amused by shots of a great huge fat man trying to swim away with a helicopter after him, first you saw him wallowing along in the water like a porpoise, then you saw him through the helicopters gunsights, then he was full of holes and the sea round him turned pink and he sank as suddenly as though the holes had let in the water, audience shouting with laughter when he sank. Then you saw a lifeboat full of children with a helicopter hovering over it - there was a middle-aged woman might have been a Jewess sitting up in the bow with a little boy about three years old in her arms, little boy screaming with fright and hiding his head between her breasts as if he was trying to burrow right into her and the woman putting her arms round him and comforting him although she was blue with fright herself, all the time covering him up as much as possible as if she thought her arms could keep the bullets off him. Then the helicopter planted a 20 kilo bomb in among them terrific flash and the boat went all to matchwood. Then there was a wonderful shot of a child’s arm going up up up right up into the air a helicopter with a camera in its nose must have followed it up and there was a lot of applause from the party seats but a woman down in the prole part of the house suddenly started kicking up a fuss and shouting they didnt oughter of showed it not in front of kids they didnt it ain't right not in front of kids it ain't, until the police turned her turned her out. I don't suppose anything happened to her. Nobody cares what the proles say. Who am I kidding? If newsreels were still a thing or a blockbuster film came out now with a graphic scene of helicopters strafing a boat of migrants in the Channel you'd get pretty much this right now. It's just hidden and fragmented in a million social media posts. It's interesting and a little disturbing that Orwell picked up on exactly the same sort of tendencies - a mix of animal bloodlust (cheering as you bomb the boat full of forrins) and mawkish sentimentality (won't someone think of Our Children?) in people (the British people especially?) that is so evident today.

^^^ Can't wait for Patel to ban antifa without a shred of self awareness.stev posted:Except in this analogy they also want to apply the death penalty to all victims of crime too. It's incredibly frustrating because you can point out all you like that people who are in situations like that will die if they aren't helped, and they'll keep saying that the person shouldn't have done something / should have done something else. Like how homeless people should 'just get a job,' ignoring the fact that the person on the streets is there specifically because they were unable to get a job, whether from mental health issues, disability the government refused to support, or addiction issues the health service was ideologically opposed to treating. No, they should just get a job. When all the shelters are full, and the police keep moving you on every few months, and you have no permenant address, and are unsuitable for work. The horrifying truth of the situation is that someone in that situation will die, given a long enough timeline or a harsh enough winter. What they need is help. What they especially don't need is a lecture from some smug oval office who's never experienced real hardship about what they should have done. The metaphor i'd use is that a drowning person needs a float to grab onto, not a lecture about jumping into water: except that loops back to the actual, literal situation we're talking about. Jesus it's nightmarish how spiteful some people are.
