Ugh, what a gut punch though in a manga with so many gut punches though.

Maybe, put it wouldn't have been as funny as 'Bleedin Muppet' or 'Bloomin Tosser'. Same for Miss Naddy's accent and...Dear Sweet Merciful God...just her EVERYTHING.

It has been a while since parent induced misery: the manga has been posted about but it seems to be headed for an ending.

Its always been a very torturous read just because of its pacing and paneling.

Context seiichi basically pinned his moms crime on himself in the hopes hed see her again because she gaslit him into believing he did it. She got released and led him along promising she would visit but never does. This is during his trial and the first time hes seen her since he got arrested

This and Boys Abyss seem to exist to be as miserable and dreary as possible. Kudos to both having SEVERELY hosed up maternal figures.

Boys Abyss doesn't affect me as much because it's more grand guignol-style, throwing around the drama and misery in gleeful shovel-fuls. Mothers is just harrowing poo poo.

The problem is that it repeats the same terms multiple times in the space of a handful of panels in a way that just sounds weirdly forced.

(Also why is the font different only for those words if it was included in the original translation?)

They are speaking with two fonts in the original art, and while i dont know what the phrases translate to exactly (and google camera translate isn't being much help) they certainly appear to be repeating the exact same phrases each time, so the fact that their language is weird and forced-seeming is the intent. The translation is not cringe, the characters are cringe :eng101:

they're repeating "baka yarou" and "konnyarou me", pretty stereotypical delinquent insults

Humor through repetition is comedy 101, and it works fine in both the original and the translation imo

Ah, so in the original text they were also repeating the exact same insult multiple times. Now it makes sense.

Anyone have some recommendations for older hosed up psychological manga? Stuff in the vein of Boys Abyss, Chi no Wadachi, or Yakedo Shoujo.

Tunicate

I've been reading Bard Loen and it's been pretty good so far.

Mangadex summary:

quote:

Abandoning money, fame and honor, the knight Bard embarks on a journey to find his final resting place. Tasting delicious food, admiring the unfamiliar scenery all by himself, his journey to find a place to die quietly begins. What he doesn't know however, is that this is the beginning of a new adventure for him.

Plot is mostly episodic, with some ongoing political schemes in the background. The tone occasionally gets a little sentimental or melancholy, but doesn't get particularly dark.

Art has some nice dynamism, and as far as I've seen hasn't gotten weirdly horny (though there's often a couple of panels of food porn).

Translation has good proofreading but one or two issues in meaning (in particular, there's a confusing bit in chapter ten where a character says 'I can't move', where what he actually means is 'I can't move my right arm').

noone does this as well as Shuzo and Asao, but there's some genre-adjecent ones

Shibito no Koe wo Kiku ga Yoi
more classic horror-style, the club president is an amazing anti-hero

nacuN / Nachun
goes off the rails after a few volumes but the beginning is strong

The Fable
maybe more tarantino than psychological, very simple-minded main characters

Blue Period Ch. 48 I am so, so glad that Yatora is realizing that the teachers at Geidai are Bad At Teaching. He just got a full year of getting garbage input and no support. Maybe it’s just down to what we’ve been shown, but it really feels like they never tried to actually teach anything.

"art academia is awful" seems like it's gonna be an important theme considering a while back we saw the faculty more or less conspiring to make sure Yotasuke would develop into the kind of artist they think is worthwhile at the expense of everyone else

Does mangadex for this include the chapters that came out while dex was down? It's one of those series I kinda fell off on during that span and don't want to have to constantly search through reddit threads.

In unhappier news the two most recent Chi no Wadachi chapters...

I think I saw that line in a speed scan or early translation of another manga.

Oshimi Shūzō mangas usually have happy endings but I no longer have any idea how this will end happily.

Same author had another series, Wolf Wont Sleep which was an awesome DnD styled series with a dark haired Geralt styled badass, but that got canned because bullshit and us not being able to have nice things in life.

Thought the exact same thing at that exact page I posted. Follows a slight similarity of hardened badass getting younger girl sidekick that irritates him, but starts to soften him up as a person(no, there's no romance) and he becomes a surrogate uncle to her. He also starts to be mentored in magecraft by eternal youth Impa from Breath of the Wild.

Edit: Only reason I've not started Demons Souls on PS5 is that I want to make this guy as my in-game character, but I suck at that(if any of you can help, that would be appreciated).

Agreed. Apparently people hated herald kept telling the author to get rid of her/kill her so Levan could go back to being a lone wolf badass. Same poo poo as Berserk basically hated Guts's new group and the effect t had on him mellowing out and being something other than a violent killing machine. There's speculation that it might have had an effect on it being canned(LN also got canned as well til a digital continuation).

I'm still waaaaay back near start of the WN. The church wanted to collect her as a healer and Levan fought them off while potion lady put in a word to the church higher ups letting her go. Kind of...disappointing to her? I at least don't quite know how to feel about that, granted again I've not read that far in since I can't find decent translations.
