I witnessed it first hand, I would say the guy was probably not older than 35? He laughed when I took a pic and said 'EVERYONE IS TAKING PHOTOS HAHAHAHA' and i wanted to say 'I'm taking a photo because this is so awful and gross dogg' but held back

Michigan GT is definitely worth going to and a lovely convention, but yeah this was godawful =/

i think even at the time they knew that first rates were kinda stupid, but they were a matter of national pride and whatnot. it seems like 3rd rates were the big boys that actually got most of the work done.

This time its SKULL THEMED and all you have to do is make something a small child could do in an afternoon!!!!!

Challenge:

Design and build a BIG SKULL themed tabletop wargaming terrain piece! Like this:

But don't worry, it doesn't have to look that good!

Rules:

1.

The terrain must be BIG SKULL themed, that means the centerpiece of the terrain should be a LARGE SKULL (BIG), or a collection of small skulls that create the shape of a BIG SKULL, ORRRRR the terrain itself can also create the shape of a BIG SKULL.

2.

The terrain must be painted to qualify, HOWEVER: a single coat of a one colour will suffice. For example you could paint the BIG SKULL white and the terrain goblin green and that's fine! Or even paint the whole thing goblin green if you're going for a hill in the shape of a BIG SKULL for example

3.

The terrain piece must be completed on OR before 31st of October 2021. And you must post a picture of the terrain piece with some sort of proof of the days date

Points will be awarded using the following formula:

- Features a small skull: +1 point per small skull

- Features a SCRUNT: -5 points

- Features a possum: +2 points

- Features a Capybara: +10 points

- References some other meme from this thread: +1 point

- References a meme from another thread: -1 point

- Flocked base: +1 point

- Goblin green paint used: +1 point

- Clearly made with household trash: +3 points

- Uses real actual skull, bones or animal remains: -1000 points (AUTO-FAIL)(do not do this)

I think trying to ascribe some complex fetish to this is over-thinking it; I think it is a manifestation of the constant sexualization and objectification of women's bodies that is permeates all levels of our society that just so happens to appear it a weirder than usual area,. Like, whatever societal factors results in the need for truck mud flaps to have silhouette of women is the same that drives this. Maybe the nerdier minis culture gets it worse since the "normal" figures are also extremely sexualized by default.

Or maybe its a matter of niche industries tending to bend towards the interests of its worst parts, as they are the loudest, most invested, or spending the most money. The whales may have truly bizarre and gross tastes, but, they got money and :capitalism:

Edit: The mechanic overall "tokyo girl" reminds me Led from Septerra Core tho. I'd absolutely buy a run of Septerra Core minis, although their character design is also that same sorta thirsty 90s shlock, its uh, far less offensive than the weirdo jerk-off minis.

I don't think you can ascribe it as a fetish for most of these people, (though there totally are people jacking it to this stuff) but it is absolutely a female objectification thing. Coming from Anime figure / toy collection / comic book boards, I think it's pretty universal for people to want physical collections or display pieces dedicated to their interests & obsessions. Normally, you tend to see people focus on specific series/companies, or a specific character, or maybe even as wide as an entire genre. However, in almost all collecting spheres, there are always a scattering or small community of guys (and women, here and there) dedicated to just collecting women; and it no longer becomes an affection for characters or shows, but purely a desire for the female form. I've most commonly seen this in the anime collection scene (probably because a lot of Western toys are IP driven now), where people will buy and collect completely generic female model kits, statues, wall scrolls, body pillows, all because they're cute, or sexy, or... just because they're women.

Now, while I've definitely seen a looot of sexualized miniatures and 3D printing sculpts (a lot from this thread), I haven't seen many... collections, yet (Aside from Kingdom Death fans). I definitely think the creativity afforded to people in this hobby is appealing; not only can you collect figurines of women, you can customize and pose them to do whatever you can imagine. But, maybe there's still the common hobbyist problem of putting in the effort of painting figures vs. buying a complete, pre-painted statue. Or maybe anime fans have a lot less shame than miniature hobbyists. Up until now I've mostly seen sexualized figurines as set dressing on bigger models (a la the slave girls with Vect), or a novelty unit in a larger army (3rd party Repentia or countless demon models for a KoS).

Edit: No wait, there was that Slaanesh army with the hand-sculpted boobs & nipples on every model, and completely custom daemon prince that was just a blue naked woman. Nevermind that last paragraph...
