Why must the picture featuring the inadvertent suckling be specifically of an exposed wife on the beach? It's so weird.

I think it’s because the proposed law would have something along the lines of…

A) a picture, taken of a person engaging in the act of breastfeeding,
B) where the picture was taken for the purposes of sexual gratification
C) will be illegal and liable to x,y,Z

and Lord Perv has tried to come up with a scenario to fit it.

It reminds me a bit of the laws around 'extreme' and 'drawn' pornography where they were supposed to crack down on loli weirdos but then legislators started asking "hang on, what about all these hardcore ancient greek sex plates?" and "Correggio's Leda and the Swan breaks all of these several times", to the point where it ended up being so specifically written as to be almost useless, and then still wasted more time going after bus drivers for Tony the Tiger porn.

The correct objection would be more like "if the police still don't take misogyny and street harassment seriously and can't stop their own officers raping women, what's the loving point in more vaguely worded laws to ostensibly protect women from public harassment?"

In principal it's good that there are people who will scrutinise apparently straightforward changes to the law for unintended consequences. But the people who we get to do it really do make it tough for you to put your faith in them.

Vindication for starmer as he poaches 23% of Lib Dem voters, ignoring that that amounts to 17 people.

Is that current intent to vote? What does it mean?

Or is this just among Times readers? Because that's the only way I can see over half of 2019 Lab voters still wanting to vote for the party.

Seems to be a yougov poll but whether it was a private poll for Times Readers or a poll that the Times commissioned or a general poll that the Times made a chart from, I'm not sure.
However, I think there are still a lot of labour voters prepared to vote labour and even some members who approve of Starmer (judging from people I know). We are a bit of a bubble in here.

Ed:
Found this in the Independent:

quote:

The latest YouGov poll shows the Tories down by three points on 36 per cent and Labour up two points on 35 per cent.

The survey for The Times was carried out on Wednesday evening and Thursday – shortly after the government’s controversial Commons vote to save Mr Paterson and rewrite conduct rules.

A lot of people just don’t follow politics closely. Though tbh I’d still say that less than two-thirds of their voters from the last election committing to vote for them again is really quite bad. And a third of those specifically going Green is worse than any number saying ‘don’t know’ because most of those will still be back when push comes to shove

Yougov historically has an incredible amount of Lumley voters, i.e. 'lifelong' labour voters who haven't voted for the party since 2010.

99% of those "don't knows" will vote in the column they're currently in so the only actual notable thing in that chart is the movement from Labour and Lib Dems to the Greens.

I remember some focus group where one of the lifelong labour voters literally stood for the conservative party in the first election after 1997.

I have one like this and it's pretty alright, depending on how much you want to burn. 60cm diameter so you can build a reasonable campfire in there. I guess your cat could still jump inside it but I'd think the hanging style would be less attractive than the type with supporting legs.

Fire pits are a nice idea but in reality every time I've sat round one the experience has been smoke blowing directly into my face and stinking clothes.

If I was going to buy one it would be one with a chimney.
