Illinois should just switch to eastern time, bonus points if that corner of Indiana stays in central.

DST is dumb, your car has headlights, your evening commute is going to blow either way. Waking up to an hour+ of darkness is misery that should be optional. We tried it before and everyone loving hated it.

Shere posted:DST is dumb, your car has headlights, your evening commute is going to blow either way. Even more hilariously - everyone loved it at first, then loving hated it less than a year in. I'm not going to say that it's impossible for people to stick to loving it this time, but using history as a guide indicates that most folks talking about how great permanent DST would be will change their tune a few months in.

Well not everyone hated it, because bills are regularly being introduced to go one way or the other. In 2019 the senate passed a bill to stay on permanent DST. The reason it hasn't actually happened is because it requires approval from DC. I personally don't give a poo poo how bright or dark it is in the morning, it's not the light that makes mornings terrible it's the fact that I have to get up to an alarm and go to work.

Regardless of which way it goes (perma-CDT or perma-CST), changing the clocks is just stupid. It's pretty easy to get used to the gradual change of sunrise and sunset each day; having a jarring shift that completely changes everything twice a year is just obnoxious as hell.

I personally like watching the sun come up. Especially on my days off when I'm already out in the garage with the dogs. You get that last hour of darkness and silence before the sounds of the day start up.

The days when I could watch the sun rise over the lake were the best and almost made that lovely 25-mile-all-city commute worth it.

Very cool news, my older daughter's school had 1/10 of the student population either test positive or go into quarantine in the past week. I don't know how many of the students are part of the voluntary weekly testing at the school, but I assume this means there are even more kids spraying it around without getting tested at all. Very glad that at least she's got the first shot now, and looking forward to the second.

So neither Davis or Kizinger are running for Governor, it’s definitely going to be Bailey vs. Pritzker right?

I'm not sure any Republican will ever be governor unless they come from the Chicago burbs. Downstate Republicans have a totally different agenda. Not sure who that would even be from the Republicans. Last few years have seen their power shrink a lot up here.

Chuds are super loving mad about the Governor doing anything about covid whatsoever. It's totally possible Bailey could win - I won't trust any polling shy of, like, an 8 point lead for Pritzker. Being pro-virus is a winning political strategy in 2021.

If you're in the burbs or city, you really can't understand how much people downstate sincerely believe covid will just disappear if only the government stops reminding them it exists. This isn't just chuds, this is people who usually don't vote or give a poo poo who might come out in droves for a dude telling them he'll UNMASK OUR KIDS and OPEN 'ER UP.

Also, it seems like Omicron is a more transmissible, but milder version. And the Biden admin is going all in on the COVID treatment pill, so that’s probably going to save a bunch of unvax’d lives. In summary, COVID will not be saving our politics. “There is no pony in this poo poo pile.”
