The actual fascist regimes in the 20th century certainly didn't end how they expected, and it ended so catastrophically for them because they weren't thinking rationally about the situation and blubbered into a massive war of attrition which they could not win. We can't defeat Britain? Okay, let's invade Russia!

One of the important beliefs of Nazism was that slavic peoples were subhuman, who needed to be ethnically cleansed to make way for German settlers. Also, the Nazi party violently rejected Communism within Germany prior to 1939.

The Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact was inherently unstable because the Nazi party would eventually have an ideological need to come into conflict with Russia and its desired sphere of influence. The Russian government was aware of this, and were rebuilding their shattered industrial base with an eye towards another conflict with Germany. Barbarossa was without a doubt a tremendous failure, but there was complete ideological consistency in the decision to launch it. There was nothing "irrational" about it.

Recent interesting study of "Long Covid" from France:

https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/fullarticle/2785832

Supports what I've said in this thread before:

quote:

This cross-sectional analysis of data from a population-based cohort found that persistent physical symptoms 10 to 12 months after the COVID-19 pandemic first wave were associated more with the belief in having experienced COVID-19 infection than with having laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection.

"Long Covid" is essentially a modern neurotic disorder caused by media overconsumption, predisposition to depression and anxiety, and lack of sunlight and exercise.

I have to admit I'm pretty skeptical of some of the long Covid claims. Obviously there are very real and sometimes serious complications people can get from it, but a lot of people seem like they are just self diagnosing and attributing it to whatever they want. Like, a lot of the "long covid" sufferers are the exact type of person I"d expect to claim they have Chronic Lyme Disease tbh.

Not that I think it doesn't exist. But I think the nature of it attracts a certain type of personality like bees on honey, so it's really hard to gauge what is legitimate and what is someone just trying to leave work early because they want to take a nap.

I’ve known both someone who had actual long covid symptoms and eventually recovered and a chronic hypochondriac who never had Covid in the first place but was absolutely convinced they had long covid. The first person was not in the “long covid community” and was just interested in getting better, whereas the second would not shut the gently caress up about their long covid saga, which I assume is still ongoing. I do think the media barrage is causing anxiety-prone people a lot of mental harm, I know other people who basically don’t even go outside anymore and at least one person who has been going back for multiple vaccines (4 so far)

Your posts in this thread suggest significant emotional disregulation. Try eating a balanced diet below 2000 calories, exercising, and getting outside each day this week and I hypothesize we’ll see a drastic improvement in post quality.

I had a pretty mild Covid case and still have some lingering poo poo from it that isn’t debilitating but sure is annoying as hell. Viral infections can do some weird things so not surprised a novel one is having some longer term effects. I agree on the chronic Lyme disease thing though, but that segment of the population is probably equivalent to .001 percent

Along with porn and video game temperance (not abstinence, all things in moderation of course). Try it for a week, journal, and see how you feel!

Judging by his posting/probe history I'm not entirely convinced he believes there is such a thing as good estrogen.

Should I be playing video games to get hotter? Do women also get estrogen from video games? Also, as someone who gets my hormone levels checked regularly, should I not be playing video games before a blood test? Does that throw it off?

I totally agree with this and it makes perfect sense (to me as a non medic) when you consider the insane anxiety some people have put themselves through over the pandemic.

I don't mean vulnerable people, I mean people doomscrolling these forums, panicking opening delivery boxes that might have packed in a Covid environment, getting shakes seeing a crowd again etc.

There's 100% a long Covid anxiety disorder spreading alongside the real thing.

Hell I got super winded on my regulat bike route the other day and got worried about it (turns out I had a flat tire)
