And we'll have to hope the courts don't slash the damages down significantly. An actual lawyer needs to weigh in, but it looks like the Supreme Court's holding is that punitive damages are usually capped at less than ten times the compensatory damages: which are essentially nothing in the third claim in particular.

As best I can tell that's been deliberately cultivated by the Democratic Party.

Yes, extremely.

I don't have it any more, but I got a flyer for Biden that made it look like he had been in the Navy. Aviators and leather jacket, I think he was even on a boat.

This is literally just an image of Biden:

And that meme doesn't say anything about student loan payments restarting. But the Biden administration has something to say about that! https://www.politico.com/news/2021/10/18/biden-student-loan-payment-restart-516194

So yeah my image of Biden wearing aviator sunglasses, eating ice cream, and saying that you have to start repaying student loans come from that - the things the Biden administration is doing and the image they are trying to project. Biden's and his people (yeah, following the Diamond Joe image) created that image, and wanted me to have that image. And they are restarting payments. It's not a lie created by righwing memes. If Democratic Party members do something bad or stupid or cringy it doesn't become fake news just cause lovely people point it out.

They're all over the merch at joebiden.com like that. He gave Putin a pair as a gift. It's not remotely a stretch for someone to associate Biden with them without it being a right wing meme.

As far as the authenticity, googling turns up pretty much nothing in the way of anyone talking about Joe Biden and aviators or sunglasses or images of him wearing them, even into the early years of the Obama administration. Whether they're a long time preference of his or not, leaning into that as a part of his brand seems relatively recent.

My understanding is that Senate Dems can't pass the bill as is right now, as it wouldn't meet the 60 vote threshold with all 50 Republicans holding out against it. They would need to agree to a filibuster carve out for voting rights, which is something that they COULD do, but Manchin (and Sinema? And possibly a few other quieter hold outs?) is holding fast on "no changes to filibuster status" right now, so they CAN'T pass the bill currently.

Either 10 Republicans would need to find their souls and pass the bill for the good of the country (unlikely in normal times, doubly so after the death threats leveled against the ones that voted for the BIF), or Manchin would have to change his position on the filibuster (unlikely in normal times, doubly so now that he's basically The Most Important Senator by holding to status quo in all scenarios).

The simple answer is:

Step 1: Biden likes ice cream. He also likes to wear aviator sunglasses. Neither is unusual for an old white guy,.
seriously they're just a common style of sunglasses, it's not like he's going out in full tactical gear
Step 2: Over the course of several years, political reporters trying to catch Biden out often catch him wearing sunglasses and/or eating ice cream.

Step 3: https://www.foxnews.com/media/press-fawning-coverage-biden-ice-cream-ohio-embarrassing

Step 4: Biden campaign goes "gently caress that, I'm not going to be ashamed of sunglasses or ice cream"

So we're to step 5:

Seriously there are good things to get mad at Biden over without him being some guy cultivating a fake fighter pilot image and lording the unimaginable luxury of a scoop of vanilla ice cream over us all.

During the Trump administration the US got the Taliban to agree to stop attacking US forces by agreeing to pull out of Afghanistan in May, 2021. There were no US KIA from March, 2020 till August, 2021. so the Taliban was upholding its end of the deal. Note this does not mean they did not attack Afghan government forces.

May, 2021 was the negotiated deadline for leaving Afghanistan, Biden extended the war 3 months, I'm guess so he could declare the war over on 9/11 for symbolic reasons.

Obviously we'll never know if Trump would have followed through on the May, 2021 withdrawal, but that's what was agreed upon.

Nobody was going to be able to withdraw cleanly from Afghanistan. Biden could have done better yeah, but he's also the only one to actually WITHDRAW. Everyone else made vague noises and half-assed action that was later undone, but Biden actually did it. It was messy yeah but drat, we're actually out of there. The worst mistake he made was not listening enough to the Intel changing rapidly that the Afghan army was disintegrating way faster than anyone expected. But even sloppily done, getting troops out of Afghanistan is one of the unambiguously good things Biden has managed to accomplish.

Trump ran the same drone program as Obama and also had the ability to, and most likely did, send drones to kill US citizen's. The big change he made was that he didn't tell us when he killed US citizens. It's a bipartisan program developed over the last 4 presidents to expand the president's ability to unilaterally control the military. It's Bush/Obama/Trump/Biden's secret kill lists and drone program.
