It seems like they are for home built and non-FU budget stuff. They are generally cheap used and super easy to revalve / rebuild yourself at home.

X1/9 was supposedly a follow on from the Bertone designed Autobianchi A112 Runabout concept from 1969 (though you can see the Stratos quite obviously in this too)

...but then DeTomaso rolled the 1600 Spider out the door a year before the X-19 was released and the thing is VERY similar.

Also I'm still down with retrofitting oldschool stuff with new electric gubbins, particularly cars like this.

I feel like there's a very important step missing in the middle, where they use the foam mockup as a mould, and use that to create fiberglass or cf layups of the body panels, which is what we see installed on the finished product.

i found it on a russian site and figured it was similar to that mercedes what was bodyworked foam

There are pics on the owner's instagram

https://www.instagram.com/catacy_935z/

I can't tell from the small pics if molds were made or just glassed and bodyworked.

The C4 ZR1 was esoteric enough that the C8 Z06 is probably the first time a lot of car people have heard of an OHC Corvette, and someone (or a Google search) probably told them it isn’t the first one.

I know if I bought a 350z it would never look remotely as good as this does, but I've started to warm to the idea of owning one lately. Based on the examples I see driving around my neck of the woods, it's probably going to require the same amount of work to make it look decent anyways.
