From what I understand most Quiverfull are in poverty due to having a lot of kids, and it is the few at the top with all the money and power promising one day they can be just like them.

I think they also got a new TLC show at some point? It didn't have Josh, but the rest of the Duggars gradually wormed their way back in.

It's almost certainly this. BtB talks about it at length that all the kids have how to act in public drilled into them from an early age and they are strict about it. That kid was never trained for something like this, though.

When their original show 19 Kids And Counting (2008-2015)was running, according to various Internet articles they were paid $25-45,000 per episode, one article totaled it up to about $850K a year.. and it ran for 10 seasons. The old show focused on all the family.

The newer show Counting On (2015-2021) picked up after the above show was cancelled due to the Josh molestation story getting out, and now IT is cancelled because of, once again, Josh loving up with the arrest for CP, but there's no reason to think they were getting paid any less from the new show while it lasted for another five years..

Counting On initially focused on the elder two daughters but eventually spread out back to include the entire family, including (ugh) Josh.

The family has been getting a check from TLC for the past 13 years so they're likely well off, maybe not super rich since the money has to be split among so many people, but they're definitely better off than the average family on the whole, since they got that network payday for 13 years straight AND continue to receive charity from multiple sources.

TLC made them all that way I'm sure, they're more than likely hard wired since birth when they see a camera to wave and smile; I'm sure their father was instrumental for making that happen.

While we're on the subject- it would make so much sense if Josh learned all the tricks of his disgusting trade from his dad, and that's why he's pulling out all the stops to protect his son; add the Right's projection machine running full tilt, and hell- maybe the people at TLC were operating a cp ring and distribution ring right under everyone's noses.

Maybe that's why Huckabee has such a vested interest in this particular case, and maybe his daughter intends to make it go away.

Just another reason why she shouldn't get the seat.

A little ways back, but the Quiverfulls, and the Duggars in particular have a weird thing about smiling/being happy.

I don't know the full details/theology of it but it's along the lines of "If you are sad then it is God punishing you for something bad you did/thought. So it is important that you are always happy and look happy."

It, and the fact that they were "blanket trained" as youngsters, (look it up if you want to read about child torture) explains their weird 'practiced' performative smiles, and stiff formal "I'm fine, there is nothing bad going on" attitudes.

i was walking around the neighborhood once and checked inside one of those little free libraries. i saw To Train Up A Child in there and took it and tossed it into a trashcan

sometimes i feel slightly bad for this act of censorship and book destruction, but then again its a book that advocates breaking your childs disobedience by repeatedly hitting them with small objects, so... nah, into the trash it goes

blanket training is when you (child abuse warning) place an infant on a blanket and smack it every time it tries to crawl off the blanket until you smack all of the curiosity out of the child

This looks a lot like suffering.
I haven't done any additional reading but from just the info in the thread the statement "Is someone downloading CP?" may not be that incriminating on its own depending on the rest of the conversation. How did the agents introduce themselves and what information was given to the defendant prior to him asking them that question? If the agent said something like "I'm Agent X from the child protection unit, we have a warrant to search the premises for digital contraband" it's not an unreasonable question to ask.

It would be pretty slam dunk though if they could place the employee that left at the end of April physically somewhere else away from the office at the time the any of the files were downloaded or accessed. Also the fact that the defense's only real option is to try and shift suspicion away from Josh and onto this guy means he isn't likely to be a charitable witness.

In answer to the other question about not being able to prove which of the two guys it was, it doesn't really matter because only Josh is on trial. If there is reasonable doubt in the jury's mind as to his guilt they can find him not guilty. If LE wants to they can charge the other guy but the fact that they didn't means they don't think he's guilty and/or they don't have a solid case against him with the evidence they currently have. They could even both be guilty so the prosecution has to be careful about the narrative they paint.

My near-2 year old kid is curious almost to the point of fault. She lost a shoe in a river, has hit me in the shins with her toy broom, and has nearly fallen off furniture by trying to reach too far (we keep an eye on her when she does this so no faceplants yet).

I can't imagine restricting her to a small blanket. Her curiousity is what drives her and I can see how much she's learned from being able to interact with her world. She's a handful but I couldn't stomach restricting her for the sake of my own convenience. I feel like I'd be cutting a large potential part of her off.

I mean you have Tamar getting raped by her stepbrother and getting blessed with….having to live alone in her brother’s house for the rest of her life. Okay, bad example. How about Dinah? Oh wait, she was being a whore by hanging out with women without a male escort. All her fault….okay yeah, I got nothing.

Also love the admonition that you have a choice between not being abused or being spiritually strong. Nothing strengthens the spirit like abuse. :shepicide:

It’s this, Jim Bob pockets it all. The daughter who’s testifying, Jill, and her husband recently had some sort of legal battle with Jim Bob because they were never paid for their appearances on the show. They ended up settling for some unspecified amount iirc

Depending on which flavor of Christianity you have, the story of Judith, the widow who slept with the enemy's general and then cut his head off and was a hero, is a pretty badass Bible woman. It's only in the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox scripture though, the protestants don't have it.

Therapy is a requirement for the people that go after child porn users. One of my first jobs was doing forensic interviews for kids who had been abused and I worked with a lot of investigators that handled child porn and Christ it was soul crushing. (I remember hearing about some of the videos josh was caught with). Essentially every piece found has to be catalogued and attempts are made to find the victims (there are people whose only job is to censor photos so they can be sent out for identification attempts) but so much of the work is just being surrounded by awfulness.

One of the guys I worked with was known nationwide as an expert witness for testifying to the age of victims. He lived alone, retired around 30 years and shot himself several weeks after retirement.

They probably have a profound amount of money. Aside from their show income imagine how many ghostwritten books (and cookbooks) have been sold at Wal-Mart since the show became popular. Everything is tax-sheltered under some religion loophole. They also don't live a mainstream lifestyle so there are minimal school supply or other traditional expenses. If you shop at Sam's club you can feed a ton of people for not a lot of money.

Josh and his legal problems are probably the single biggest expense in the history of the family tree.
