There’s definitely some weird, cool stuff over there. I came across an American car club meet in Kobe when I was living there a couple of years back. I’ll have to try dig out those photos

I think a more practical solution instead of banning would be to limit the acceleration and top speed of heavy vehicles. The scale could extend through the whole vehicle range and you could create a formula for it. The maximum allowed acceleration for a vehicle could be such, that after a 200 meter acceleration it needs to be able stop within XX meters. They would still be available, but at least they would be less desirable for those without a real need.

Amusingly this system is sort of in use in Finland. A car magazine recently had a review of Ford Ranger Raptor and that specimen was registered as a commercial truck for tax reasons, so the speed was limited to 89 km/h and it was equipped with heavier duty suspension. So a potential customers needs to consider whether they have a slow vehicle with harsher ride, pay tens of thousands more, or if they should just get a small sports car.

So I have a rule of thumb on whether or not cars like this fit in one or the other. This is a road car, which means if there is anything that makes it a hazard to the occupants or other drivers, it's terrible. Why is it bad that occupants can't just enjoy the car they've made? Because if some 16 year old is involved in an at fault accident and kills the other occupants in this death trap, it's going to gently caress them up for the rest of their life.

TL;DR: wrong thread. Though if it rolls off the trailer at car shows, then it's in the right thread. The plates suggest otherwise, however.

They should be what you get before you can get a car. Or at least licensing should start at an earlier age and cost less (free, ideally). They teach you to be extremely wary of pedestrians, road conditions, and other drivers. They cost less, take up less space, and have unlimited visibility. Start on a 250 and work your way up, or go to a car from there. But this is in my imaginary world where cars are lighter and road are designed to be more multimodal, especially in cities. Where being a pedestrian, cyclist, or motorcycle rider isn't a death sentence.

Motorcycles are demonstrably more dangerous to operators and produce more emissions by weight than most cars so good job

Okay per unit weight or are you ignoring that?

Also like I said there needs to be systemic change in the way we view and design transportation infrastructure. Where everyone in a car will have been given context to their motorcycle years, view the road with more caution and treat other bikers with more respect. And this isn't a systemic change just to accommodate motorcycles. This is a change that is needed anyways.

Riding in the snow is for experienced riders, and even then very few do it. It's not actually fun to be out in 60 mph, 20 F wind. Also, you gotta ask yourself how badly do you really want to be riding with cars in reduced visibility, reduced traction conditions?

Out on a frozen lake is totally different tho

I am assuming you are serious, but feel free to ride in the winter when roads are fine or just wet. But I strongly discourage you from riding in the snow. That is an experienced riders game and there is a good reason you don't typically see bikes in the snow. it is slippery and dangerous as gently caress. Even clear roads can get frosty and slick around freezing.

Motorcycles are typically exempt from mandated snow tire/chain laws. I am 99% sure that is the case in bc.

I don't even like riding in the rain on something that doesn't have offroad tires. The off ramp to my house has this metal expansion thing that goes across the whole lane in the middle of the turn and the one time I got caught in a storm on my bike, as soon as I hit that piece of metal with my rear, I did damned near a 180. This was while I was already going slow as gently caress.

What I said was more along the lines of "should be able to drive motorcycles before cars". You wouldn't be forced to learn on a motorcycle any more than you would be forced to learn how to drive a car. You could just do it sooner.

There's a pickup I see in my apartment complex that has a pristine bed, and a bike rack mounted in the trailer hitch more often than not. I get it, there are valid reasons they might not want their bike in the bed (harder to secure maybe, or if they put other stuff in the bed, whatever) but I still die a little inside every time I see it.
