Phobophilia posted:Fume knight is way easier than Alonne. He's very slow and fairly predictable. I've been doing a ton of co-oping with him to farm sunlight medals, and it is possible to avoid some of his attacks without even rolling. He's kind of like Nameless King, except without the agonizing delay on his attacks. Fume Knight is easy if you have enough agility, but at least you might have to actually dodge his patterns, literally all I had to do for Alonne was walk circles around him and then hit him a couple times when he whiffed an attack.

Out of DS2, Sir Alonne, Fume Knight and Ivory King are my favourites. If I had to pick my favourite of all three Dark Souls... tied between Sir Alonne, Gael and Lord of Cinders.

Gotta love Sir Weeabo's special animation when you beat him without taking a single hit. Fume Knight, I'm a dirty cheater. To this day I still get confused and caught by his first phase, so I just equip Velstadt's helmet so that he goes straight into phase 2.

I've done the no getting hit by Alonne once and was with a shield raised up all the time. For some reason my brain got into defensive mode and rolled perfectly during the entire encounter, not needing the shield at all. I do the same with Fume Knight, raise a shield and do better rolling than just having it on my back.

Dark Souls raises so many questions about the mind and how we prepare for and execute things. Its never a matter of if you can, we can all surely beat everything in the game, even to the point of no-hitting bosses. Its being able to maintain the focus thats difficult, its within yourself, nothing to do with the game at all. I play a ton of darts and its the same thing. I can throw a 180 for fun, but being able to do it consistently, when it counts, is where the challenge lies. You are playing yourself more than anything else. I think part of what makes DS feel so easy to me is a) I'm never afraid and b) I know if I fail, its only my own fault. I need to remember those two things and apply it to my darts philosophy.

I had a hilarious invasion recently at Brightstone Cove, right as I was about to close out a new game cycle and murder all the NPCs to acrue Sin. I was chatting with Ornifex and in comes a red. I win most of the opening encounter and they retreat next to Ornifex in hopes that I would agro them. I'm using an estoc and this does not work. For their trouble I gave them the "no way" emote. And joke's on them I was going to kill Ornifex anyway.

I like to think that the events of the Soulses are being presented to us as simulacra, like a legend being told, and the size of a figure represents how weighty or important they were to the legend, kind of like e.g. how figures are represented in ancient Egyptian art. Plus on a video game level it makes them feel more threatening and intimidating

Vendrick is probably a non-pygmy. You're all the same race, but you're a pygmy if you have a piece of fugitive pygmy Velka's dark soul. Nashandra is a piece of mutant Manus so I guess she breaks the rules and is just big. Vendrick was susceptible to the undead curse though, but I'm not sure why.
