Vargo posted:I know we get all excited (rightfully so) when one of our thread favs gets called up to the big leagues but I really can't see Olive turning this into something palatable, or even understandable, to the general newspaper-reading audience. You're correct, but this is (sadly) the exact kind of joke that'd go over with my pals so maybe gently caress the general newspaper-reading audience.

F Minus does so much with so little. My Lovely Horse posted:Vater und Sohn: The bank robber (17/1936) I love this one so much. The joke is great and the body language on Vater sells it so well. He is absolutely livid that a grown man would knock down his son and is going to slap box a great deal of respect into him!

Annnnnd let's just square our shoulders and barrel through these... Sally Forth Pearls Before Swine Skippy (April 2-3, 1934) Peanuts (December 12-15, 1974) Funky Winkerbean takes the predictable route with both its critics and modern economic realities. Crankshaft Mutt and Jeff In case you were wondering why Breezy has been acting out of character lately, Rip Haywire has you covered. Or is covering its own rear end. Pick one. Thimble Theater (July 11-13, 1938) And now, what I'm hoping is starting to pass as a holiday tradition: Out Our Way At Christmas (December 20, 23, 25-26, 1922) Life (With The Dawning Realization That Maybe There's A Reason Skippy Stopped Being In The Magazine Every Week): So. You might have noticed that Skippy's appearances in the magazine that gave birth to him in 1923 have been tapering off over the recent months. I did too, and like a dingbat I'd forgotten that I'd been posting the answer for years, because June 22, 1925 was when Skippy launched as a daily comic strip, and while Skippy as a gag a day vehicle has overlapped a bit with the full page illustrated version with better reproduction, it's obviously a situation that couldn't last forever. Percy Crosby still shows up in Life and a lot of the other weeklies, but when it comes to zooming in on a particular character, maybe it's time to start calling this feature something else. (December 10, 1925) Meanwhile, we get a Don Herold cover that I'm very fond of. Al Frueh: Alice Harvey: T.S. Sullivant: Just to show you there are a lot of roads to follow with our without Skippy, here's Jack Farr, a frequent contributor I never quite got around to. Harrison Cady: And now, the conclusion of Swee'Pea's Mother: Taking The Baby Home (November 28 (reformatted for comic books) and December 5, 1937)

Uramachi Sakaba: Psychotic Break Comix Chako And that is all there is of Chako, sad to say! (At least, it's all there is that Q-Rais archived and tagged nicely on his not-optimised-for-comics website - I know there are earlier strips that another poster was sharing.) Despite having said it was his favorite comic to draw, he cut it off pretty unceremoniously at the end of 2019 because the print collections just weren't selling nearly as well as the fat cat or sad bear comics. Which, not surprising, but still sad. It's not the end of Q-Rais, though! I'll start tomorrow with ChaCha Chako, the narrative spin-off that ran alongside Chako for the last year and a half of its run.
