I love this one so much. The joke is great and the body language on Vater sells it so well. He is absolutely livid that a grown man would knock down his son and is going to slap box a great deal of respect into him!

And now, what I'm hoping is starting to pass as a holiday tradition: Out Our Way At Christmas (December 20, 23, 25-26, 1922)

Life (With The Dawning Realization That Maybe There's A Reason Skippy Stopped Being In The Magazine Every Week): So. You might have noticed that Skippy's appearances in the magazine that gave birth to him in 1923 have been tapering off over the recent months. I did too, and like a dingbat I'd forgotten that I'd been posting the answer for years, because June 22, 1925 was when Skippy launched as a daily comic strip, and while Skippy as a gag a day vehicle has overlapped a bit with the full page illustrated version with better reproduction, it's obviously a situation that couldn't last forever.

Percy Crosby still shows up in Life and a lot of the other weeklies, but when it comes to zooming in on a particular character, maybe it's time to start calling this feature something else. (December 10, 1925)

Meanwhile, we get a Don Herold cover that I'm very fond of.

Chako

And that is all there is of Chako, sad to say! (At least, it's all there is that Q-Rais archived and tagged nicely on his not-optimised-for-comics website - I know there are earlier strips that another poster was sharing.) Despite having said it was his favorite comic to draw, he cut it off pretty unceremoniously at the end of 2019 because the print collections just weren't selling nearly as well as the fat cat or sad bear comics. Which, not surprising, but still sad.

It's not the end of Q-Rais, though! I'll start tomorrow with ChaCha Chako, the narrative spin-off that ran alongside Chako for the last year and a half of its run.

The bebop fan thinks the DJ is a cool sophisticated man, while the people who appreciate real music white music think he must be plugging his ears to play this trash.
