I only ever use her enough so that she doesn't instantly die in her paralogue. She's not worth an Abyss Seal imo.

Manuela's main problem isn't the growths, its the bases. Priest is a bad class to auto-level in, and she's in the category of 'get 17 strength or magic on promotion'. Which is really bad for physical since 17 strength is too low to actually do damage. It'd be serviceable for magic.... except for starting with no Reason and a weakness in it, so you won't actually get 17 magic at level 20. Remove any singular factor against her and she'd be perfectly workable, but it's the straw that broke the camel's back, as it were.

I read a post once where someone made a case for Mortal Savant Manuela; with her Spd growth, she's certainly one of the better options for it. It's still a pretty bleh class, but I think the only (kinda) valid options for the class are her, Byleth, Felix and Ignatz.

Might have gotten blessed, but also note I can't speak for Maddening runs, I went to hard and no further.

I've never made any real attempt to use Manuela as a unit besides training her enough to use Warp, but she might be my favourite character in 3H and all this discussion of her makes me want to try using her again. I don't think she has a single wasted support, from what I remember they're all either really funny or very interesting in terms of characterisation and lore. Shame you have to play as lame M!Byleth in order to marry her : ( Good look with the Ashen Wolf paralogue hell gauntlet. I don't think I've ever been able to do them without saving them for the last minute and then stomping them with overlevelled units, and even then I end up needing to waste loads of divine pulses to survive them. There's way too much trial and error involved with all the reinforcements that only spawn in when you do certain things on the map.

Unit Reviews Edelgard Von Hresvelg HP: 40% Str: 55% Lck: 30% Mag: 45% Def: 35% Dex: 45% Res: 35% Spd: 40% Cha: 60% Strengths: Sword, Axe, Authority, Heavy Armor Weaknesses: Bow, Faith Aptitude: Reason: Black Magic Crit +10: Grants Crit +10 when using black magic. Personal Skill: Imperial Lineage: Multiplies experience earned by 1.2. Imperial Lineage+: Additionally grants +4 Res if Edelgard only uses the "Wait" Command. More Detail along with Rea's thoughts here: https://rhematic.net/fe3h_lp/updates/Edelgard/ Nat's Thoughts Edelgard; if you look purely at her growths you can relatively quickly identify her as a player phase powerhouse. She's running a huge strength growth of 55% alongside an excellent charm growth of 60% letting her hit very hard with physical weapons and gambits. She's let down a little by her speed growth however, with it sitting at a pretty poor 40% and as you've seen on this Maddening run, it means that most things are doubling her now. To top that, her defensive growths aren't exactly wonderful, which is odd given she's positioned as an armoured unit later in the game. Edelgard has a vestigial 45% Mag growth and a good spell list on reason, but aside from trickster, which requires her dealing with a faith weakness to get into, there's nothing that can really take advantage of both her offensive growths meaningfully. If you were so inclined, she could do some work as a Valkyrie or Dark Flier, but at that point you're really just trying to make spell Edelgard work rather than building into her strength. In fact, looking purely at her growths, Edelgard is just a worse Dimitri. She's traded a little strength and a lot of speed for a useless magic growth and a slightly better charm growth and trades a useful personal skill for +4 Res when she doesn't do anything, which is nearly completely pointless on Maddening because by the time she gets it, other characters will have developed into significantly better res tanks. Of course this ignores a lot of important things. The first, but perhaps not foremost, being that Edelgard is a girl. Darting Blow means that on average, player phase Edelgard is much faster than player phase Dimitri until his speed growth catches the +6 speed she gets from darting blow at around level 40. The second is that she has Axe specialisation. This is hugely beneficial for her because it's very easy to get her into Brigand early to grab Death blow as well as that sweet +5 Str on level up. Additionally, the extra power of axes in general mean that she's able to compensate for her slight strength loss to Dimitri with stronger overall weapons. This also gives her an easy avenue to Wyvern Lord, which as a class gives her absolutely everything she needs. She gains sky high mobility, excellent boosts to strength and speed as well as canto and a free prize at the bottom of her cereal. The final important note is probably the most impactful. Aymr Eagle eyed readers will have noticed that when I first started doing unit reviews I went through every one of the Black Eagles, even the ones we weren't, using but missed Edelgard. This is because Edelgard cannot meaningfully be reviewed without talking about Aymr and Raging Storm and those technically have never been in player hands until now. Raging Storm is infamous and rightly so. It is the most unbelievably broken combat art in this game bar none. It grants a staggering +14 MT and +10 Hit at a cost of 3 Durability, which would be powerful enough, but on top of that, Edelgard gets to act again after using it. The tooltip for the combat art is wrong here, even if she misses her opponent, she still gets to act again. This is just, completely crazy and snaps the game's difficulty in half the moment it comes into play. Wyvern Lord Edelgard can defeat entire maps on her own by using Raging Storm to bounce from enemy to enemy allowing her to cross a map and kill the boss. Even without doing that, Edelgard can simply end early map pressure, or reinforcement waves by killing enough units to cripple what response is left. The limit on Raging storm is Aymr's 20 durability, limiting it to 6 uses and the difficulty of repairing Aymr with Argathium, which is tremendously difficult to get ahold of. Of course, Aymr only needs 3 Argathium for repairs, of which you get one for free from recruiting Jeritza. And Chapter 16 of Crimson flower just so happens to have three golems that will drop Argathium if you armour break them. This means that, on a practical level, for chapter 17 and 18 of Crimson Flower you're very likely to have almost all your Aymr charges available for use. And you only need to ration usage across chapters 13-16. To put simply, there is footage of Edelgard soloing the final map of Crimson Flower Maddening in one round because of Raging Storm and the strength of this single power sits her with Claude as the best unit in this game. The Plan Noble->Fighter->Brigand->Pegasus Knight->Archer->Wyvern Rider->Wyvern Lord. The standard ladies' path dovetailing into the best physical class in the game. Conclusion

I’m at least partially convinced that Edelgard’s personal class is armor so that she doesn’t have too much movement as an enemy in the other paths and have to deal with less threat range with the combat art. You straight up cannot let her attack you without losing someone. The tooltip being wrong is obnoxious and led to a map restart on my Blue Lions run. Essentially I took the tooltip at face value and put a dodgy sword to pull her. She proceeded to miss as planned, then get another turn anyways and kill two mages, before killing herself on a counterattack on my wyvern and ending the map. That was fun and not rage worthy at all.

Unit Reviews Jeritza von Hrym HP: 50% Str: 50% Lck: 30% Mag: 35% Def: 40% Dex: 35% Res: 25% Spd: 60% Cha: 25% Strengths: Sword, Lance, Brawl, Riding Weaknesses: Faith, Authority Aptitude: Flying: Black Darting Blow, +6 Speed When Attacking an Enemy Personal Skill: Murderous Intent: If unit initiates combat, grants Hit +20 during combat. Nat's Thoughts Holy poo poo this guy was a surprise. I'd never actually used Jeritza in game before this LP and whilst his growths were really solid on paper, I was sceptical about how a new joiner would do, coming in against lovingly trained recruits. Jeritza is a monster. He joins with 32 Str and 27 Spd, which sits him close to Edelgard in pure strength and up there with Leonie and Felix in terms of speed. He has excellent growths in both of these, making him a prime physical attacker, but to top that he also comes with A ranks in all melee weapons. So he immediately picks up your best Spear/Sword/Axe and starts going to town on enemies. His huge strength score complements his speed growth allowing him to wield heavier weapons with a low penalty. To top that he has a budding talent that gives, of all things, Darting Blow. This makes him the only man in the game that can get this skill and since he starts with A proficiency in Axe, it's very easy to get him the coveted Swift Sparrow combo as soon as you get him. He'll lack hit+20 but his personal skill helpfully covers for him there, making him fast and accurate on player phase. This doesn't get into how amazing Death Knight is as a class. Whilst, like all cavalry, it unfortunately inhibits speed growth, it has excellent movement alongside canto and gives him Distant goddamn Counter as its mastery ability which gives Jeritza the unique ability (outside of the Chalice of Beginnings) to kick siege tome users in their stupid faces. On top of that, it lets him cast Magic. You're unlikely to get a huge deal of use out of this feature, but if you can briefly invest him in Faith magic you get a very mobile pinch healer out of the deal. In terms of weaknesses, Jeritza's physical side is absolutely excellent, he runs the same 40% / 60% Def / Speed combination that Leonie does, which makes him a contender for a top physical tank. But he has very low charm and res, meaning that gambits and casters can end up, somewhat fittingly, being nightmares for him to deal with. So yes, he's still scared of Lysithea. I have been incredibly pleased with how I've seen him get along and he gives CF a real power injection that it sorely needs after it loses out on Catherine. The Plan Death Knight. I'll be real with you, I'm not grinding for a single unit and this guy is strong enough in this class that he doesn't really need anything else. Conclusion

The Shadow Library - Part 1 So one thing I wanted to cover outside of the usual video format was the Shadow Library. The LP has always been concerned about the lore of the game and you'll forgive me but I can't actually recall if Rea got to this back during the original. I can't imagine she missed it, but even if she didn't this lore is cool and I want to comment on it. The Shadow Library is an area inside the Abyss that only unlocks post timeskip if you've beaten the Wolves DLC and have the Renown to unlock it. It contains rare tidbits about the game's world and hints about what might have happened in the deep history of the game. So let's see what we can unearth: Letter to a Mysterious noble posted:"My Beloved... Weirdly this actually isn't about Claude. I got confused briefly because of how similar Claudia's name is to his and how she honestly seems like the Riegan heir leaving for Almyra. But this is the history of house Daphnel (Judith's House) and Galatea (Ingrid's House). The older brother of House Daphnel had a major crest of Daphnel and the younger brother a minor crest. Unfortunately the older brother was an arse and so the Lord of Daphnel chose the younger brother to be heir and Claudia Riegan insisted on marrying him. The result was a split as the older brother, outraged at the disrespect he had been shown joined Faerghus an established the house of Galatea on the land he took. The result was an embattled house that has always been poorer than its neighbours. An Antiquated Note posted:"(A scrap of paper is stuck between the pages of a book. It appears to be incredibly old.) This is a reference to "The Best of Fodlan" a meal that you can make late in the game that grants all stats +1 to all of your allies. I manage to cook it up twice in the upcoming chapter! The Feast of Decadence posted:"The Seventh Song So the removal of this novel by Seteth makes sense as purely romantic novels aren't things he wants in the library. But the implication of a relationship between Emperor Wihelm and Seiros makes our currently rebellion against the Church potentially even more tragic. Words of Love posted:"Table of Contents Unsurprisingly the puritan Seteth is not happy with the presence of books helping students get laid being in the Church Library. That said, perhaps he's also upset with an entire chapter about his daughter? Burnt Remnants of a Report posted:
This is the good stuff. Someone out there was putting together a history of the major conflicts in the world and coming to the conclusion that most were suspect. The first entry implies that Loog, the first King of Faerghus was supplied and advised by Those Who Slither in the Dark. It even implies that he was gifted the same, or at least similar weapons to the ones wielded by the Ten Elites. Suspicious, given we see replicas of those same weapons appear in the finale of Verdant Wind. The second entry gives us the first reference I know of to the "Shadowed Order" of the Knights of Seiros. It implies that there's a clandestine order within the Knights. Again, this interestingly scans to the ending of Silver Snow, where a select sect of the Knights of Seiros, tainted with Rhea's blood turn on you as she goes insane. The other interesting part is about how Those Who Slither in the Dark assassinated and forged Klaus I's will to split Faerghus. This results in the successful formation of the Leceister Alliance as it is able to secede in 881, just twenty years after Klaus I's death in 861. We get to the Tragedy of Duscur, which we should all be familiar with at this point. Those Who Slither in The Dark engaged in a False Flag attack to decapitate the leadership of Faerghus, leaving only Dimitri alive and the blame with the citizens of Duscur. The resulting pogrom alienated the region and the deaths of all his siblings as well as the knowledge that someone who looked like the Flame Emperor did it left Dimitri a shell of himself. Finally we are on to very very recent history. Godrey von Riegan is Claude's uncle and died in an accident following the death of the previous heir to Oswald von Riegan, Claude's grandfather. Again, those who Slither in the Dark seem to be doing work here to ensure that the Alliance would have no clear successor. Their game for years has been to divide and divide Fodlan, presumably for the play they set up with Edelgard and the Empire, presenting a divided Fodlan that she could swoop in and reunify under their guidance. Unfortunately it seems that these plans didn't account for Tiana von Riegan marrying the King of Almyra. Natural 20 fucked around with this message at 01:09 on Feb 20, 2022 |

Natural 20 posted:The Shadow Library - Part 1 These two points combined lead to more than just Dimitri's current state. Because the central Church had a "Shadowed Order" that was snooping around, they got caught by the Western branch who thought that the main Church did the assassination because like Sylvain says in his support with Dedue: Duscur didn't have the capabilities to do what happened there. A suspicion that was likely made worse when Catherine (who was at some point a suspect when the Kingdom wasn't just genociding Duscur) was given amnesty in exchange for joining the knights. This led to Christophe attempting to assassinate Rhea, failing, and getting executed not for trying to kill Rhea but for being one of the culprits for the Tragedy of Duscur. Now the Western Church knows that something's going on and assume the worst, pushing Lonato into getting revenge against Rhea for killing his son for a crime he didn't commit (as opposed to the crime he very much did) and from there we get chapter 3's mission, Ashe's paralogue and Flayn's paralogue.
