It said he wouldn't carry a locator beacon specifically (as a rule) because "then he wouldn't really be alone." That was where I was over it.

Honestly when I was watching this something immediately clicked. I was like, “oh, the people who do this sort of thing in the way Leclerc did it, shouldn’t actually be celebrated—ever. They are high order narcissist, probably sociopaths, and the most selfish humans you will ever encounter.” ZombieLenin fucked around with this message at 19:27 on Dec 19, 2021 |

Watched the alpinist, nice! Spoilers I guess maybe slightly. It was respectable that as they presented the story arc, they presented themselves being dicks to him. Like "hey, quit living your life and finding meaning the way you see fit. Come back to work (letting us make a movie about you)." Also, these movies, the alpinist, free solo; they're like reality TV superhero flicks. Alex honald talking about Leclerc, like iron man talking about hulk ^^

Watched the Alpinist - very good and agree with others on how they showed his story and eventually just let him live his life. 14 - Part of the issue with trying to represent any climbing in this film was if you're limited by the format (2 hour movie), it'd be hard to represent the actual climbing part. I almost would have preferred a 14 parter (or something).

Climbing is very hard to compellingly film. Mountain climbing = slowly walking uphill while breathing heavily Highly technical and complex rock climbing = person just stands there against the rock. Occasionally they move a hand or a foot. Dying of exposure = Laying down in the snow Summiting = Standing on a patch of rocks with clouds around you Blizzard = compete whiteout, camera might as well be broken Exhaustion = person moves slower, breathes harder, complains

Aphex- posted:Yeah I really liked the docu mainly for giving Nepalese climbers the credit they finally deserve, but it was a little frustrating that they pretty much breezed past the actual mountain climbing. Only really the bottleneck on K2 and the queues on Everest got a real mention. I wish Annapurna got more attention seeing as it's like the most deadly one.
