I think it's "crypto bros have about as much clue about how IP laws work as monkeys at typewriters have about the works of Shakespeare" but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if one of them* tried to claim ownership of something in the obvious public domain.

*NFT boosters or the monkeys that shat on the typewriters when they tried that thought experiment irl, either/or

But the right click save as thing is what people do to suggest nfts don't signify ownership, so making fun of that idea is to assert that NFTs do signify ownership.

Whether this means the cartoonist does not understand their own point or not I don't know, this is why I do not look at political cartoons because they hurt my brain trying to process whether the cartoonist is espousing an idiot position sincerely or just is an idiot and doesn't understand anything.

There was a recent example of a crypto scam buying one of jodorowsky's big books of dune and subsequently finding out that owning a copy of a book doesn't entitle you to create an animated feature based on it.

I'm not even sure it qualifies as a scam considering that everyone involved seemed to have the level of awareness that gets honestly shocked when finding out that sponsoring a flower bed at the local park doesn't mean that they can turn it into a deep shaft mine.

The joke on Twitter is that some weirdo posts "I now own this lovely picture of an ape!" and the replies post the same picture and say "right-click, now I own it too". So I'd say the cartoon is pro-NFT, in keeping with the age-old tradition of political cartoons being poo poo.

Omicron trip report: absolute bullshit waste of time. I'm pretty much already recovered after 4 days except for a bit of congestion. At its worst it was congestion + a bit of a cough + mild fatigue and fever. I've had worse colds. As expected if you've had your 3x vaccines I don't think there's much point getting worked into a pit of existential despair about it. Unfortunately it does seem to be lingering. LFTs are still returning strong positives, so I'm still under house arrest. Hopefully only for a few more days, though apparently after 10 you're supposedly no longer contagious regardless of whether the tests pick it up? Idk.

After ten days you're allowed to leave self-isolation so long as you don't have a fever, regardless of whether you're still testing positive on LFTs.

Whether or not that means you're no longer contagious at that point is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The difference there is with a number of those cases you did have people selling an empty box claiming it contained a console. Which was a scam.

But you also had some auctions where people would say for sale "One Xbox 360 Box!" And they would sell.
And they didn't even have to go to the trouble of putting it in small print. I remember ones where if you read the description of the auction, the person made it quite clear that what they were selling was an empty box and nothing else.
And while they may have been banking on people bidding without properly reading the description (it was predatory) arguably all the information was there. In a sense many of them didn't feel the need to lie to make a sale.

With NFT's, they aren't being upfront with anything. It's all based around buzz words and people not understanding how technology works let alone regulation or even basic legal concepts of ownership.
NFT's are much worse.

I really need to stop using libs / centrists / dickhead columnists interchangeably (even if in practice they largely are).

Regardless, the 'stacking the supreme court' issue is an example of something where the people who would have applauded Clinton / Biden / Obama for doing it would have been up in arms if Trump had done it, i.e. "It's fine when it's our guy doing it to own the other side."

Yes it is legal (if questionable calvinballing of the rules), yes it would have materially better outcomes if the dems did it than if the republicans did it, and yes there's precedent; but I don't feel like that's the point for the people being smug about it in the press, or at least it's a thin justification for the real reason which is to get an advantage over 'the bad guys' or bloody their noses over Kavanaugh & Coney Barratt.

NEED SQUAT FORM HELP
"Workers must curb wage demands, says Bank governor

The governor of the Bank of England tells the BBC that workers negotiating their pay this year should not ask for too high a rise in order to help bring inflation under control.

Andrew Bailey says he is concerned that higher pay will lead to rising inflation and could become ingrained in the economy.

"We need to see a moderation of wage rises," he says, conceding that the idea would be painful news for workers.

"I don't want to sugar that, it is painful. But we need to see that in order to get through this problem more quickly," he says."

Not just "you can't have a rise" but "don't even loving ask you cunts".

Far as I can tell, NFTs boil down to "I have a digital receipt that proves I paid money for said digital receipt which was attached to something easily duplicated". Why these lovely cartoon monkeys, skulls or whatever have any value I have no idea, beyond "a thing is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it."

Or alternatively, "a fool and his money are soon parted."

The lovely cartoon monkeys look lovely because they are produced using paper doll generators that produce certain elements with a preprogrammed randomness, meaning there are "rare" features which means that certain ones are "more valuable" because that is how value works apparently, you can say "oh my moneky is making the anime sex face which only happens 10% of the time, isn't that amazing, it's so rare" without anybody asking why you would want your monkey to be making the anime sex face.

It is the artificial scarcity of foil trading cards except instead of being non fungible by virtue of being a physical object, they attempt to render them so by having the receipt you mentioned, the actual file however can be funged at will and is materially identical to all other copies of the file.

I think the £150 council tax rebate and the £200 energy bill reduction are different things.

If I understand the idea the latter is a loan to the remaining energy companies that allows them to give every customer a £200 credit on their bill, and the energy companies will be repaying the loans (and so presumably putting it on your bills when wholesale prices are lower) rather than the government trying to administrate millions of small loans to individuals.

The £150 council tax rebate is a straight tax rebate funded by selling your library to a company that makes nazi meth or something.
