Where is that goon that ran during recall, bring him back. What animal is he going to bring along in his campaign van though? Bears are already done.

Yeah he did really well in the recall, not just in votes but raising class consciousness amongst workers by pointing out the in-our-face problems (pandemic, climate) and their cause. Hopefully the SEP runs someone again with the same vigour. That landlord loving capitalism-isnt-that-bad Green candidate getting more votes is really indicative

Scrutinizing a politician is the worst thing you can ever do. It's very triggering for them, and is essentially violence. Same for remembering things they said and then repeating those things back to them.

I already told my kids that we might loosen up and start letting kids over for playdates and sleepovers once the cases in LA get really low, but for places like grocery stores and theme parks we will be keeping these masks on for the near future. They do not care either way, which was awesome. I saw a Let's Go Brandon shirt in the wild yesterday on a maskless woman at Legoland in SD, and it was startling because it's the first thing like that I've seen in person. My kids were wondering out loud why so many people were unmasked, not out of jealousy but more concerned about their personal health.

There really aren't that many people walking around with Let's go Brandon shirts, you think there would be a few since it's basically a more subtle version of a MAGA hat but I've seen all of 2 people wearing them.

The truth is nobody likes a landlord. Even if you're doing well the last thing you want to do is pay rent. It's probably the one thing people pay for that feels the most like a tax on being alive.

My boss had a light case of COVID early in 2020, masked up the whole time, is fully vaxed, but caught Omega 3 weeks ago after attending a retirement party. He said it was absolutely miserable, way worse than his first bout. I'll keep my mask for a bit longer thanks.

It's fine to get worked up about the mask mandate ending, but the truth is that the mandate wasn't really being enforced in most places and if someone didn't want to wear a mask, they weren't anyway.

personally my favorite is handing pizzas to people through the window of their car who don't have masks on. occasionally some employee will not have theirs on and some dipshit city slicker loses their minds and it's like. look, not only are you not wearing one either, but we're in closer contact now because you're too lazy to get out of your car. god forbid you do what you're technically supposed to do and just leave it outside on the curb for them to get, that'll get someone screaming in the lobby for minutes. the reverse of this is people insisting i don't need to wear one who don't take whatever deflection or excuse i have as an answer and keep lecturing me on it. the county never rescinded the mask order for businesses, I don't care that you don't care, dipshit.

the summary is i wish people would shut the gently caress up about masks forever, ive endured the same conversations 10000 times in real life and online and nobody will ever convince anyone else at this point. it's like arguing with your friends about whether vanilla or chocolate is better. the conversation never ends and is only fun the first time.

My parents are currently buried under a foot of snow and were giving me poo poo about how it's going to be sunny and 70-80 here all week. I tried to point out to them that a) this is supposed to be our rainy season and the drought is going to get very bad as the year drags on, and b) 80 degrees in Feb means we can absolutely look forward to sustained periods of 100+ during the actual summer. They were unmoved which hey I get it, shoveling snow sucks, but still.

I've been saying for a while that if you want to live in Bay Area now you need to accept that in 20 years it's going to look like Arizona. My guess is that agriculture in the Central Valley has about 5-10 years left.

My choice of xeriscaping my front yard in Roseville (Sac) 5 years ago with fruitless (mostly) olive trees, lavender, sage, rosemary, manzanita, agave, grasses, etc has paid off. It is way more maintenance than you'd think though but once established doesn't need much water in the summer. Avoid Caribbean agave, it grows very fast and at year 7 throws up the stalk and throws off a million pups. Stick with the slow growing Blue agave. Grasses like the blue fescue look great half of the year but really really hate the scorching summer and turn brown and shrivel up. Don't bother with them unless they are in the shade. I wish the arizona style small brown pebbles were available instead of the choices we get here in in mostly black/white/grey - and the decomposed granite stuff that does come in desert brown is great for around 3 years but then needs lots of maintenance to keep weeds controlled. We have a model for what a hotter, be drier Mediterranean climate looks like, it looks like Southern California or parts of Spain or southwestern Australia. All of those places also have agriculture, and Central Valley ag is much more threatened by increasing land prices as Bay Area transplants convert acres of farmland into residential plots that yield higher tax revenue.
