Pits or dirt walls are my go-to for taming, bc the animals won't attack them and often can't see over them. Lure the wolves in, jump out, then just throw meat in occasionally til they're tamed.

In one of my servers we did this and somehow the wolves glitched through the world floor but didn't fall away. They were also untamed still.

This led to a whole area of our base turning into a scene from Tremors where invisible wolves were rampaging around killing everyone.

Yeah but trenches are ugly. I want a platform.

On taming wolves: i found the onky way to effectively do it is to build a stone box kennel, then build a perimeter of stakes all arpund the kennel, basically in a circke radius arpumd the workbench assuming its next to the kennel. Lure a wolf into the kennel and seal them in with more stone. Throw 20 deer meat in, demolish the workbench amd abstain from entering that zone for 30 to 40 mins. The pallisade should be good enough not to have wolves aggro whenever sone greydwarf strays by.

Are you really tied to the location for some reason? I would just find a new place whenever I felt like I outgrew my base.

Also do you have pictures of each rebuild for comparison?

I found a peninsula that was perfect and basically used a combination of stone and terrain to raise a large platform I can build off of. It's situated just about perfectly.

My planned rebuild is more of a cosmetic thing than a functional thing. Like probably everybody who has an opinion and plays valheim I'm not happy with my roof

Use workbenches to establish good spacing for spawn suppression, then replace them with torches that are part way up a tree or on a stone column. They count as 'player base structures' even when unlit.

Set up like this they're very robust and can create a huge pocket of no enemy spawns in most biomes.

It's easier if you're on a peninsula or otherwise surrounded by water.

Did things get changed so generic player base structures suppress spawns? Last I really dug into Valheim, it was workbenches that were used almost exclusively to suppress spawns.

Once you have the resources, you can dig a pit, put a workbench in, and pave over the hole with stone to create a spawn suppression bunker that dwarves have almost zero chance of loving with. Also, apparently, you can cultivate land and plant grass and it counts as a structure to stop spawns, so that might be a good option to not be ugly.

The wiki says they all do and in my experience it works. I've had a couple massive bases chock full of torches and get zero spawns in the protected zone.

The full set buffs archery. The helmet gives poison resist, so it's good for the swamp while you get iron (this armor set is between bronze and iron). The chest piece has piercing resist, and actually ends up better against deathsquito attacks than a fully upgraded padded chest.

If you're talking about from the new patch it gives you a 10% speed boost ( ie faster than being naked), fire resist and a boost to unarmed. It maxes out at 52 with a cape. I basically wear it whenever I'm not planning on picking a fight with a boss or a bunch of plains critters.

It's a bit of a risk in the plains but it's more than enough anywhere else.

That doesn’t look like physics, since the banners billow towards the player model on the first pass through it. Probably just a canned animation played on collision.

For what it's worth I 100% recommend signing up for the test patch. I have had exactly zero stability issues. Every once in a while there's a bit of slow down when there's a blizzard in the mountains and the drakes are shooting at you, but I couldn't tell you for sure whether that existed before the patch. Other than that it's been stable as a rock.

This is probably the least buggy early access game I've ever played. I couldn't tell you I've noticed a single thing that was definitely a bug.

The white out blizzard causes slow down for me too and I've played off and on since it became EA. The most common valheim bug was when you built an enormous base with lots of ground flattening. This would result in a pretty severe performance drop.

They had to rework the code and it was the first thing they focused on when valheim really hit it big. They also included a console command where an existing world/base could be reworked/recalculated with the new method to solve the slowdown issue.

I flattened the area around my base a good amount, trying to get the loving trolls to stop spawning, I wouldn't say the slowdown is noticeable, although I would say in general the game doesn't perform as well as I would expect it to considering the graphical fidelity.

I want to be clear and say trying to get the trolls to stop spawning didn't work. I think that's going to be my project for tonight.

That the terrain among everything else is destructible is probably the biggest part of that. I remember Subnautica initially being planned for terrain changing being possible and had to drop it.

The adverse effect they saw was when loading save games. I was in EA when they still had destructible terrain, and sometimes saves took over a minute to load if you had done a ton of terrain modifications.

A better example of destructible terrain having an adverse effect on game performance itself is 7 Days To Die, where every single block is destructible/constructible, and it wreaks such havoc on AI pathing that they had to put a limit to the number of enemies that can spawn at any given time.

Yeah, at least some of them. I'd bet something small that just modifies drops would be fine, but Valheim Plus definitely didn't work. I'm so dependent on it that I'm just going to wait for a full release and mod update.
