yeah, salsa is really just chopping up some veg, adding whatever sort of chile you want, salt, maybe an acid. buying it ain't worth it; even in the us and especially canada most of them are cooked and sweetened, so they all taste like tomato sauce rather than a fresh, vibrant salsa

googling for 'british salsa':

i haven’t gotten to the point of making my own corn tortillas because the same place i could get masa from also has proper corn tortillas but i often find myself tempted. it’s also tricky to find corn oil, i have to go to giant sainsburys as the locals won’t have it

i'm well aware of what quality food is, thanks.

in the mid-00s there was kind of a revolution in that area in us groceries, same with bread. just about any place i'd been since then has at least a selection of 'premium' cheeses, both from dairy centres in north america as well as imported from abroad. the key distinction is that it's usually held separate from mass market cheeses in the dairy section and usually off on its own. bulk cheese is only good for cooking into things imo, where the distinction of a good cheese would be totally lost.

I heard a cheese monger say that one should actually use good sharp cheese in cooking; as the flavour is so much stronger you need much less (and would probably taste better too). It made sense.

This came up during the week. My friend is streaming Spelljammer: Pirates of Realm Space.
It was a D&D game made in the early 90's for PC (and maybe there was an Amiga port.)
Only this game was a buggy mess. Characters stats reset all the time, sometimes in the middle of encounters. Some enemies cause the game to crash. It's essentially impossible to level your crew.

But doing research into it, the game retailed in the 1990's for $59.99.
Which in today's money would be about €110-120. That would buy you a Triple A title with season pack, all the add ons, and likely some statue you don't ever look at. And if the game wasn't working, it would at least be patched.

Or to rewrite it: Putting a mic in front of two people who were the main protagonists in the Trojan Horse Hoax, and asking them questions about it, was investigative journalism. It was not, as they describe, "akin to interrogation and torture". That Sonia Sodha agrees with that assessment sums up British Journalism perfectly.

White cheddar popcorn is the best snack food mankind has ever created, and I'm eternally bemused that as a country we consider cheese on corn to be an acceptable combo, as long as the corn has been mashed up into a dough, put under heat and pressure, oxygenated and then extruded through a tube to make Wotsits or any other cheese flavoured baked corn snack, but just cooking the corn and putting the cheese flavour on directly? Disgusting to many people, apparently.

Ah right. Tan companies haven't considered this easy market.

If you want white cheader popcorn, you don't need to import it from the Yanks.

There is an Irish brand (Manhatten Popcorn.) That makes bags of Cheader Popcorn for like €0.70 a bag. Just search for it on Google. Don't pay £30 a bag that some are offering.
