Also the fact that there’s a bunch of legitimately cool moments later in the manga that I’d love to see get animated (though to the original anime’s credit they did give Crona a much happier ending then what their manga counterpart got)

the movie is a bunch of corporate politics wheel spinning, one inexplicable musical sequence, and no emotional payoff to anything, so the overlong end sequence feels like even more of a waste of time

Yeah I was disappointed too. It felt like a worse retread of the series. While the series was about the characters learning and developing and achieving their goals, in the movie there was just a series of stuff that happens and things get solved for no particularly clear reason.
