As far as trucks with terrible blind spots my least favorite is the Skymark 10k gallon refueler. It's a gigantic fuel tank with a 1-person cabin wedged on the side. I've driven a few and hate them all. The blind spot is basically 270 degrees. These are not the biggest tankers I've driven but they are by far the least maneuverable with the worst visibility. The older models had no cameras, the windows were flat so glare from reflections made it nearly impossible to see at night, the airbladder suspension system was crap so say goodbye to your spine if you hit a bump or drive faster than 15mph, the hose reel would frequently jam, the turning radius was abysmal and made worse by the cabin being far in front of the actual turning wheels, the front tires would wear too quickly from turning the tires from a stopped position, there was no way to recirc the sump through the filter so it had to be drained, test port lines ran too low to the ground and would get snagged on things, the isolation valve on the side hose was behind the reel so you had to reach through the spokes of the reel to close it, the jack riser hose (big hose on the white truck in front of the turning wheels) would snag vehicles and cause incidents, and the recirc ports weren't connected to the interlock so you could snap the hoses off by raising the lift deck during a recirc. The newer models added cameras.

This falls in line of my comments of why in the 21st century our at least thousands of years old well building technology still hasn't developed some kind of 'boy in well' blocking system since it still happens regularly.

SyNack Sassimov posted:Just build it somewhere else then chuck it in the drydock, then fill the drydock. It's not that loving hard gimme a break. But first you have to move the ship from the pre-drydock to the dry dock. Since it's a ship, the easier way to move the finished vessel is in water. So you'd want to build the ship in the pre-drydock, then flood the pre-drydock, and float the ship out to the drydock, remove the water, then allow water into the drydock so the ship can finally float free outside the drydock canal network.

You have to push the crates in the hallway into the water and then jump on them to get to the electrical panel and turn it off. The drain is down in the floor, you need to open that next. Did you get the rebreather in the vent tunnel when you were sneaking around the turret, or just put on the ballistic armor and run through?

If you were in that situation, at least up until the bridge actually starts going up and lifting our car in the air, would you smash through the gates with probably hundreds or thousands of dollars of damages, or would you sit tight and assume that the bridge attendant would notice and open the gates or something to let you out? No, they crossed well before the gate behind them closed. You can see it close when they stop. They were probably stopped by a barrier on the other side of the bridge closing too (out of frame). The bridge operator just trapped them on the bridge and opened it, and got fired for it.

All that chat has had me thinking about how drawbridges work way more than ever have before. It took me forever to figure out how that person fell from one a week or two back, because my basic assumption was wrong. I figured that the pivot points were designed to keep the top surface of the paired roadway segments essentially together as the bridge portion rotated up (avoiding any substantial gap), rather than part of the bridge portion also rotating down and creating said gap. I guess there's probably mechanical or design reasons that make this way simpler or cheaper or something?

shame on an IGA posted:open and close the nearest room door while staring at the side with the hinges and all will become clear That's the thing, if they *were* hinged exactly like that, maybe the gap would be bigger than I imagine scaled up to a bridge. But the video has the pivot set up so the bridge section rotates completely away from and under the other road section, which I was totally not picturing. Oh well, obviously I've never lived anywhere that drawbridges were very common, I probably haven't even driven on one for at least twenty years.
