Did he? I remember there were two almost interchangeable teen guys who tried the right wing pundit grift. One of them was working class and the other much wealthier, and iirc the working class one obviously got dropped the second he stopped being useful and ended up back in his mum's house living on twitter. Ofc the wealthier one was fine, I guess that must be the guy you mention.

I just find something desperately sad about them all, particularly the useful idiot working class ones who we all know are being laughed at constantly even by their ostensible supporters behind the scenes.

I don't even think they experience cognitive dissonance, I think they simply operate on an entirely different way of thinking, I don't think right wing people look at the world and reasonably decide based on observation that it works a certain way, and update that view in response to new information, I think generally they just do whatever is most immediately emotionally satisfying, and so their politics are storybook and everything ties into whatever pet idea they are attached to in whatever way is convenient.

The whole worldview provides an endless stream of emotional validation, that's the main point of it.

They have no idea how little anyone outside of that tiny bubble takes them seriously. When they get a few years behind them and realise how dumb they've been being it's going to be brutally humiliating for them to look back on it all and realise how silly they actually looked and how nakedly they were being cynically lied to and exploited.

Not sure what the intention of the post was but I'm also uneasy about calling for individuals to directly provide arms to a foreign power (e.g. first org on the list, "Save Lives, provides thermal scopes to soldiers for the purpose of ending lives"). Like I'm not saying it's the wrong thing to do, but I'd need to be a lot more sure about who those weapons were going to & why.

e: like if you're cool directly arming people & want to do good you'd probably be better off sending the money to oh hi GCHQ didn't see you there (e2: don't arm GCHQ)
My priorities:
  • Protecting free speech;
  • Suppressing free speech.

The whole special is top notch and probably one of the best pieces of art that encapsulates millenials with an emphasis on the pandemic. It's really funny and smart but also very depressing so if somone here hasn't watched it, maybe hold off for a bit but definitely put it on your to watch list.

So I did some googling, and there is a story here if you want to read about this years entry.
They only confirmed the group 2 DAYS ago.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukraine_in_the_Eurovision_Song_Contest_2022

And for the song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foqgjD_SNss

Can see this getting all 12s just as a gently caress you to Russia.

Ukraine asks EBU to ban Russia from Eurovision and suspend its membership from the broadcasting union

Belarus is no longer allowed to compete at Eurovision, so Russia wouldn't even be the first. I expect some wags would say "the UK should be banned for having boring songs" or "every country should be banned" or something.

Edit: and I don't know about "all 12s", but from what I can tell, the Ukrainian song seems to be fairly popular on its own merits. I like it. I wish the UK would send something more folk music based, but we're probably going to send something like an unremarkable Dua Lipa impersonation.

For real, there actually a whole lot of weird Putin stooges on the left ime. That sign she's holding is basically an SWP front in case anyone isn't aware, there's a lot of SWP supporters out there (relative to the left as a whole), and most of them have extremely bad opinions about Russia, Assad &c.
