There's a RC-135U Combat Sent patrolling Romanian skies atm. First time I've seen that type in the air during conflict. From descriptions I can find online it's designed to collect and analyze information about new or upgraded systems for future use. There's only 2 of these types in operation.

The John Oliver approach of jokes and news might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I'd consider him a reliable military analyst. And for all that Chris is the face of the YouTube channel, there's a number of other writers and contributors as well. They've got a bunch of different gear and history coverage, and in particular have some of the most detailed information available on new weapons programs like the Army's NGSW rifle program. https://taskandpurpose.com/news/army-next-generation-squad-weapon-m4-m249/

They will be hunted down and killed by special forces and will not be shown amnesty (I think they mean payment) if they surrender. So perhaps a lot more indirect fire vehicles will be found abandoned over the next few days if that message spreads to the russian forces.

ronya posted:Food impacts thread: This matches my thoughts re: the ag situation, though obviously a more educated perspective on Africa specifically. He's being very conservative with his "should" here. I would say "is guaranteed to" https://twitter.com/David_McNair/status/1499644409096413184?t=UJaYBMWPZ5-vfxqNLSRTEQ&s=19 Most meat that you buy in a store is "finished" - aka fed exclusively for the last few months to reach market weight- on grain. Grain is usually cheap and plentiful and it's low labor to just dump a pile of feed in front of a cow/pig/chicken in a pen and leave em to it. That's why grass-fed is more expensive - it requires more space and more labor because the animals have to be rotated though different pastures to prevent them from being over-grazed. More grain being diverted to human consumption means less available for feeding animals. This means that farmers are going to be selling off current stock quicker so they dont have to keep feeding them, cull breeding animals for meat sale because they won't want as many babies for a while, and they'll raise less animals. Prices on meat may actually drop for a bit as the extra meat from culls hits the market, but eventually the prices are gonna go up. There's a serious monopoly issue among processing plants that keeps prices artificially low in the states but I don't think that's gonna be enough. Milk prices should be relatively stable because cows are primarily fed on silage/alfalfa but I wouldn't be surprised to see increases there too. Sorry for the ag post novels, I just think it's important to discuss the downstream food impacts of this. KitConstantine fucked around with this message at 12:19 on Mar 4, 2022 |
