The way NFL games are officiated calls the legitimacy of the outcomes into question vastly more than Calvin Ridley placing bets imo.

Hell if I know. If you watch the video he's trying to make some point about career passing yards to rushing yards, Tebow is up there for plausible deniability. He goes on to point out that Russell Wilson and Steve Young (again for plausible deniability since Mahomes is right there) were higher in this random thing he made up to look at and won Super Bowls. He's got Cam's super bowl appearance up there at 5.8, 6 is apparently the cutoff for a good quarterback in this for whatever reason.

It's sure a whole lot of bullshit is all I know.

It's career passing : Rushing but idk what that has to do with race. I guess because black QBs largely get labeled running QBs? Which is why they threw Tebow in there to prove that no, that's incorrect dummies. The NFL isn't racist!

Dan Marino would be the most efficient quarterback who ever lived by this metric.

e: I guess I'm not arguing against that in theory on reflection, but...well he didn't do any better than Cam did as far as rings and appearances go--which is the totality of this dumbass argument.

Suspending a guy for a year for legal betting when he's not even with the team and the league is filled with ads from betting sites is really loving stupid.

The official account of NFL Tackle Phil Loadholt.

Let's talk Football.
Just remove Ridley from this equation for one second. It's very funny how the NFL is messaging this given how pervasive in just a few short years gambling has gone from the sly comment by the commenting crew going like "well a certain crowd of people will not like that last second touchdown" to full on money lines and parlays being talked about during the pregame being sponsored by BetMGM or FanDuel and then having Terry Bradshaw talking about using the fox betting app to "Win Terry's Money!!!"

I tracked it down earlier, he almost surely bet against the Jags when the Falcons played them so he's good there. He probably lost somewhere else though since it was a parlay.

I dunno I get people wanting to get mad at the hypocrisy but there's a pretty big difference from sports owners encouraging fans to gamble versus players gambling, even if it's not on their own games. Not to mention the unfair advantage given if you're literally on the team despite actively playing or not.

Yeah the NFL really didn't have a choice here, and I think the punishment is justifiable. Players betting on games has to be punished relatively harshly just like refs or coaches doing so, it is fraud by default. Even if you aren't playing.

Also Ridley has been away from the team for a long time anyways, dealing with mental health challenges, and from what I know it wasn't even clear if he would be playing next season anyways. Now he's got a long mental health vacation to get himself together and decide if he wants to play again.

But the point that the NFL has gotten into bed so loving eagerly with betting organizations is totally true and extremely annoying and irresponsible in my opinion, I hate it. A theory could be crafted that players are basically getting entrapped through the way the NFL pushes gambling constantly.

I took the octopath less travelered,

And it made one-eighth the difference.
If the NFL really wanted to punish him they'd force Ridley to play another year on the Falcons.

Anyone with intimate knowledge of a subject isn't very fun to bet against and usually people will choose not to opt into the bet if given the chance. So if Ridley knows who's injured, not feeling the best before a game, had some personal poo poo going on, etc, it can influence a betting outcome in ways that is generally viewed as unfair at best to fraud at worst. Kind of like insider trading but less reliable.
