Hollywood was a huge gatekeeper in who is allowed to be famous. The internet with it's micro-fame, broken down that gate and stripped Hollywood of that power. They lost so much power that people can call them all pedophiles, and send Bill Cosby or Weinstein to court. Nobody cares. Very few people are "THAT FAMOUS" any more. Covid closing the theaters was not that big of blow. Streaming was a kick to the nuts. Steaming is letting in tons of new voices which diluted the importance of every single currently famous person. That is why all the directors wanted the "theater experience" or hated the use of "digital film" because expensive equipment is another gatekeeper to making film. Tech outpaced them, and now all that's lefts are characters, brands and specific actors? Maybe some directors? The recording industry has the luxury of dying behind closed doors before cellphones were common. The film industry.....It's gonna be a beautiful.

The talk about the Smith Slap normalizing violence is extremely funny considering how few people watch the Oscars. Even ignoring fictional violence, most local news programs, which I believe are the most watched type of TV program in the US, air a snuff film at least every week. Last week I saw a public transit employee gun down a drunk guy first thing on the 5pm news. Then I heard about how widespread other crime was for 10 minutes, a segment on the war in Ukraine, and it finished out covering a charity for local dogs.
