I'm really liking it the more I play. I am not super far in yet but it looks like you may have to spend real money to open the later characters. If so I will probably throw some Google Rewards bux at it because it has been a fun game.

But so far the only ads are after you die you can watch an ad to retry again instead of ending your run and I think I came across another spot too but it was also optional and not a forced ad.

are there any merge games that isn't just horrible mtx poison swamp hell? I find the formula (merge stuff to fix a garden or a farm or whatever) intensely relaxing, but the games are basically unplayable once you reach the point where you get five minutes of enjoyment per day from the game unless you spend a fortune.

I think the framing device of merging to fix or progress something is important, just having a board might not be enough, but I'm prepared to be surprised.

Edit: I've played tripletown, not exactly what I'm looking for.

Funny you should ask. I just stumbled on Sliding Seas while looking for a relaxing game. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mugshotgames.slidingseas

It seems pretty chill so far and monetization doesn't seem predatory.

Merge Mayor is the only one that has felt fine for me. I think I started in late November and I'm at "end game" already and there wasn't really a moment where I felt completely stalled. I threw $5 at it just to support them but honestly that felt extremely optional.

Also, thanks thread for the rec for dicey elementalist. Very fun.

This is just slightly more challenging than what I was looking for (i.e. it has a lose state), but that's not important because it's real good!

I think this might strike the balance. It's still not ideal, but it's just chill enough that the good outweighs the bad (so far). Thanks to both of you!

I looked this up on the Play store and the thing that jumps out at me most is the section where they have bullet points and 2 of them are

* - Bullet point 8
* - Bullet point 9

Exactly what I look for in a game. :)

This seems to vary from game to game. Some games let me mute the ad and then resume my podcast. Others want me to suffer and I uninstall them quicker because I run out of patience.

Yeah, and it's definitely gotten worse, which leads me to wanting some kind of app or window-in-window tweak or whatever that just solves it. I'll watch the loving ads, I certainly watched more of them when they didn't break my audio.

In North America, the span of time between the release dates of the NES and N64 was 11 years (1985-1996), which is almost how old Skyrim is right now.

Sort of relevant to the thread, I've had a cellphone for 14 years now, and I had started with all that LATE.

I just saw the next evolution in stupid fake ads: there's a recurring ad that's like "can you solve this puzzle" and the theme varies but it's some sort of "drag a bar to release water/lava/acid" and then the vid does it poorly to make you mad, and the game is like, gardenscapes or whatever which is nothing like that.
This one went "you know that fake ad you've been seeing where the actual game isn't anything like the puzzle you want? Well THIS is the game that actually is!"

I mean, technically yes, you can buy more to artificially elongate your game, but I'm pretty sure there's no competitive leaderboard, so I usually just start a new game.
