I think the % character bug was fixed in a Mazda Connect update. This new one bricks the system and apparently the replacement part is $1500 and not in stock anywhere due to supply chain problems. Per the article Mazda's current response is along the lines of, "Well they should't have broadcasted bad data" which while true it's also true Mazda/Johnson Controls should have, you know, coded to handle weird input data scenarios. So far Mazda has said dealers can submit good faith repair requests on a case by case basis but otherwise haven't offered any formal plan to deal with the problem.

Introduces a fun new angle for NPR fundraisers though. "Hello, you are listening to 94.9 KOUW. It's currently the last day of our fall pledge drive and it looks like we did not meet our fundraising goal. As a result we will now broadcast the entire archive of This American Life as uncompressed audio files with SQL injection attacks in the metadata, no extensions, and a few gigabytes of randomly generated data as book ends. Given the current level of quality in automotive infotainment system programming this will probably cause some level of damage to a significant number of your vehicles. Wouldn't you have rather had the tote bag?"

Does anyone have access to the Mazda parts database? In Canada if that matters?

I recently bought a 2021.5 Mazda CX-5, and had the dealership install the OEM hitch. Considering the car is only rated to tow 2000lb I expected a class 1 hitch.
But this has a 2” receiver, which would likely mean it’s a class 3. There’s no stickers or paperwork that gives me any information.

I found it on a dealership’s parts page but it still no rating. The part number matches the work order. Part #: Hitch: 00CT-88-C57. Hitch Harness: 00CT-88-C57H and I’ve obviously tried googling the part numbers directly, but to no avail.

Everything I google about OEM hitches for the CX5 say they have a 1.25” receiver. Apparently Mazda Canada and Mazda USA have different hitches.

If this is a class 3 I know I can put at least 350lb on there safely. But it’d be nice to know the maximum, should I decide to get a carrier of some sort.

Do any of these super cheap navigation SD cards I'm seeing online actually work and do they pose any risk beyond losing $50 on a bad card? Just bought a 2022 Mazda3 and it'd be nice if we could unlock some of the additional features from the navigation menu.

I'd personally be wary of running random software on my car, which is my most valuable possession, and is a 1.5 ton machine which if it were to malfunction, could easily kill other people on the road.

Maybe it's fine, I don't know.

I think historically the way they worked, the SD cards from the manufacturer came with a license that was deleted from the SD card / bound to the car when you put it in a car.

It didn't sound like there was much or anything preventing someone from just cloning a new card from the manufacturer _before_ putting it in a car which is probably what's up with the $50 ebay cards.

Trifecta of CEL now :negative: I joined MSO and I'm dreading posting on there

P0192: most concerned about this one since it sounds like it could cause engine damage. Have a new fuel sensor on the way and looking at this as well - I don't have HPFP internals, could that be it?

P0300: my car has been misfiring when it's cold, the CEL goes away when it has warmed up. Misfire behavior sounds similar to what's described here

E: re my last post about my power seat, I did get the linkage rewelded and it's held ok since April. I had to put the push nut back on the linkage on the other side cause it kept popping off - I think it just wore out the teeth on the ID. I ordered two fresh ones from the dealer and double-stacked them. Same part number as used elsewhere in the seat assembly, since it won't get called out in a parts diagram.

I just picked up a 22 3 Turbo and fooled around with these.

For the car wash, you can press the iActivesense button on the left of the wheel and disable most of the bings and bongs, then turn it back on when you drive out.

For the lights on unlock, in the settings, look for leaving home lighting and turn it off. That will keep the headlights, parking lights, and license plate lights from coming on when unlocking. You can also turn the dome light off separately obvi.

Great car so far though! Coming from a 2011 3, feels like a goddamn spaceship. Which it should considering the price growth!

Because trade-in values on my current (non-Mazda) car are crazy, I've been eying up a new CX-30 to basically fill the same role as a Crosstrek as regards bad weather and lovely backroads but with better daily driving.

Now that I saw some of the CX-50 promo shots I'm tempted to wait for that, though. There's something about those stupid bulges around the wheel wells that mesmerizes me where the CX-5 just leaves me flat.

Weird that it costs less in AUD than USD. Both Soul Red and Machine Grey are $595 USD charges. I’m not sure why Machine Grey has an upcharge—it's fine as far as dark grays go. AFAIK it doesn’t have a special paint process like Soul Red. There's a ton of allocations for them though, so maybe it's just Mazda's way to secure more money.

Of all the CX-30s in the Northeast US at the moment (in transit or inventory), the ratio for red seems to be 1 out of 8 overall. But when it comes to the higher trim models red seems rarer.

Deep Crystal Blue was my second choice. I just can’t buy a white/grey/black car; I need an actual color.

What terrible luck. My windshield apparently took a rock or pebble or something near the rear view mirror assembly, and the thing cracked almost all the way across to the passenger side. On a car I’ve had for only four days. I only noticed it because I sat in the passenger’s seat while my brother-in-law was driving it. It had to have happened yesterday when I was driving on Route 2, I remember hearing a “ping” somewhere around Shelburne Falls but I didn’t think too much of it.

Fortunately Massachusetts comprehensive insurance has full glass coverage with zero deductible, so I won’t pay anything to get it fixed. I haven’t even gotten an inspection sticker yet (and now I can’t because of the huge crack).

That’d be closer to $800 here if it was a direct comparison. I see plenty of red ones over here and since they took most of the badging off their models it’s hard to tell the trim level outside of the size of the wheels.
Having had my 3 for a full year now I really like it apart from the auto high beams and the low battery warning starting super early when I’m cleaning it. I thought at one point it was not happy to sit at 80km/h but that turns out to be because it chucks itself in 6th which is the very bottom of the gear when driving up hill which is 90% of my commute home in the afternoons

Salt Fish

For the autobeams they are either the best or the absolute worst depending on where I'm driving. You can press the button the end of the stalk to disable it, but you have to press it each startup.

Dr. Garbanzo
Sep 14, 2010
Frequently for me they are the worst as they switch on and off like a strobe on the road I drive and I am aware that I can turn them off but shouldn't really have to. My girlfriend drove my car just before christmas and didn't know how to turn them off till she picked me up and she didn't like the experience at all. The beam also seems to be narrower than the standalone high beam bulbs on my old 3.

A mate did today diagnose the low battery level problem and its very much to do with how much power the dash and everything else behaves when the key is present in the car. Most modern cars draw 250W just sitting if it senses the key and while I set of the low battery warning yesterday when I cleaned the inside I didn't today when I washed it but the key was inside and well away from the car which it wasn't yesterday. Half prepped it for Australian winter as well which is basically just making sure it has a coat of polish on the paint and rainx on all of the glass that isn't the windscreen cause that apparently fucks up the auto wipers. Plenty of stone chips are starting to emerge though thankfully most are on the front bumpers down low and the polish will help to seal in the others that are on the bonnet

I have a 2015 Mazda3 S-Grand Touring. I'm pretty sure I need to replace the battery, but I'm unsure of what type I need to get, since the car has the i-eloop thing.

Some looking online has people saying "oh any battery that fits is fine", while others are saying that I need a specific yellow top battery?

I'm not very mechanically inclined, so any advice would be appreciated.

When my 2014 sGT needed a new battery I was dumb and went to the dealer, that ended up being about $450 because of what you mentioned. Unfortunately I can not offer you knowledge of what might be an acceptable cheaper replacement, however almost anywhere that sells a battery should replace it for you for free so the mechanically inclined part shouldn’t matter. Worst case you know the general dealer ballpark for OEM!

From what I can find, the battery needs to be able to accept rapid charging and discharging. I thought capacitors might be built into the battery but that's a separate module. An Optima Yellowtop would do it I think, though those are still pricey.

Costco does sell an AGM battery that says it fits the iEloop cars for about $160, but it's a little short on the specifications

Number One I order you to take a number two.

Any AGM battery should work fine for Mazda3s with the iEloop system. The cars come out of the factory with "enhanced" lead acid flooded batteries made by Panasonic or Yuasa and can be replaced with the same for insane amounts of money or you can pop in a group 35 size AGM from Autozone/Pepboys/Amazon for a lot less and it'll most likely last longer than another flooded battery. In my case for a 2014 Mazda3 I got a Bosch Platinum AGM from Pepboys for like $220 (pre-Covid) and the group 35 size is so similar to the OEM group Q86 I was able to reuse the battery jacket.

When installing don't forget to disconnect the ground sensor on the negative battery terminal first and reconnect it last. The service manuals specify that extra step because, uh, reasons?

I'm looking at a 2015 Mazda3, but the 130k miles on it scares me a little. The carfax shows mostly regular maintenance with a couple of ~15k mile gaps between services.

It otherwise meets my requirements and with how awful availability is right now its very tempting. Is there anything I should be worried about on it?
