These guys are really interesting. Hibiscus Mii really showed up in a great new gimmick for a recent show.

Today's CC matches look the weakest so far, but All Japan has earned the benefit of the doubt this year

e: Tough matchup. NEXTREAM are rad as hell and the combination of Hayato/Atsuki is super endearing, but Total Eclipse have Jake Vader and the also super cool Kodama/Omori team

Well, that's not a match I expected to happen.

Also is Jack Cartwheel good? I saw him on the PWG comeback show last year & thought he was really mediocre but he also seems very much like the kind of gaijin CIMA would have brought into Dragongate 10 years ago & who'd rapidly get way better (see PAC & Ricochet for the most obvious examples but honestly that applies to the Young Bucks too)

I think Ricochet is a good comp - I think Ricochet had a better handle on Pro Wrestling than Cartwheel does at this point, but Ricochet was as close to a generational talent in high flying as they come.

He was pretty fun on some of the Mania weekend Collective shows. He's definitely "ironic one note gimmick on purpose" though, so it depends on how much you like a guy who does a lot of cartwheels. But also, he's very good at cartwheels.

I would probably have dug him if he came around in 2005 or so because I remember watching skinny as a beanpole Ricochet with his long greasy hair doing the double moonsault in front of 50 people for IWA Mid South (& later as Helios in Chikara) & thinking "this kid rules". I was very much a "just give me cool flippy poo poo" fan.

SCHEDULE! The big stuff: Champion Carnival resumes after a week off, & soon it'll all be over :( NOAH do a Juniors show in Sumo Hall with HAYATA in the main event. I can't imagine it'll draw well but there's fun stuff on there, & the first foreign-based wrestlers since Rene Dupree & El Hijo del Dr Wagner Jr dropped the GHC Tag Team Titles (remember when they were in Sugiuragun?) in 2020. Genki Horiguchi appears in DDT for the first time ever! (Technically there was a DG/DDT co-promoted show but this is a real DDT show) Prominence finally do their first proper show in a venue wrestling normally happens in rather than their bar-based preview shows! It has death match dudes galore! Stardom wrap up their Cinderella tournament, & give us AZM vs Mei Suruga as well! And most exciting of all, that SEAdLINNNG show. Just look at it. If you don't watch SEAd you should.

Just as I was about to post this I saw on Facebook that DG had put out the full card for Dead or Alive, which was a pleasant surprise. Still waiting to hear confirmation of what's happening in the GHC HW Title match, right now it looks like Go vs Kaito, which means Kaito dropping out of the tag match, but still waiting for confirmation on that. Anyway, it's Golden Week in Japan & that means every day there is wrestling. Ice Ribbon have a couple of big shows, including the Tsukasa Fujimoto career break/Tsukushi Haruka retirement show, Marvelous go to Korakuen with 2 title matches, DDT have a big show with almost all the belts on the line, huge shows from both BJW & FREEDOMS (what is it about Golden Week that means everyone is running Yokohama Budokan?) Wrestle Dontaku happens & honestly looks the sort of stacked you used to get at Wrestle Kingdom so that's exciting. Dragongate do Dead or Alive but without the clusterfuck cage match we all so love, there's honestly so many stacked shows. Gatoh Move run a non-Choco Pro show for the first time since the pandemic started!

Going to be an insanely busy week but with lots of tremendous fun-times.

Are Ice Ribbon running Arisa vs Tsukka the day after SEAd is running it?

Guess both ladies' home promotion deserves to see it

Best Friends just want to beat each other up as many times as possible before the curtain drops.

And honestly, great. If I'm not getting Tsukasa for the foreseeable future, book BEST FRIENDS EXPLODES every day between now & that Yokohama Ice Ribbon show & I would watch each one. On a bad day it's going to be no worse than ***½ & they don't have many bad days.

Dragongate do Dead or Alive but without the clusterfuck cage match we all so love

In 2020 they moved it to Dangerous Gate in September, so we may see that again. I can't imagine them just not doing one at all this year, but it kind of makes sense in May since the new units are still shifting and settling.

Awesome card despite that though.

With just a few hours to go until the first of two back to back "Majestic" shows at Sumo Hall, we've got some news and notes regarding the politics behind the decision making in the wake of Kazuyuki Fujita's positive COVID-19 test and the vacated GHC Heavyweight title.
We were told Fujita was "furious" at the decision to strip him of the GHC championship. Fujita was promised a long GHC title reign when he signed with the promotion, and was set to hold the title until at least the July Budokan show, where as first reported here, the working plan was for a Fujita title defense against Keiji Muto. After what was considered a poor Budokan number in January, it was decided that a properly built Fujita/Muto bout was the best drawing match the company had for a rebound.

That plan blew up when Muto was forced out due to a number of injuries, the most serious of which his ailing hip. In the lead up to the Muto bout, after defeating Go Shiozaki at Majestic, Fujita was set to beat Kaito Kiyomiya and Kenoh in short, dominant fashion to come in to the Budokan match as strong as possible.
As of a few days ago, the new plan for Budokan was Fujita vs Jun Akiyama, on loan from CyberAgent sister promotion DDT. NOSAWA Rongai and others in the office believe that Akiyama helped move tickets the last time he worked a NOAH Budokan in February of 2020, and the underwhelming number this past January has ben partially attributed to Akiyama's absence. How they get to that match with Fujita now stripped of the title is anyone's guess.
Fujita's replacement in the April 30 title match has not yet been officially announced as of this writing. Kaito Kiyomiya publicly challenged Shiozaki at the Majestic press conference, and is the likely replacement. If Kiyomiya does replace Fujita in the GHC decision match, Kiyomiya will then have to be replaced in the Kiyomiya & Yoshiki Inamura vs Naomichi Marufuji & "X" bout. In an effort to keep his title, Fujita lobbied to have that tag match moved to the main event slot, with the GHC title match removed from the show entirely. Fujita also suggested an interim championship, which would keep his title reign intact. The latter option is still on the table.
As far as the "X" goes, it is a closely guarded secret, with only the inner circle of Rongai, Marufuji, Kendo Kashin, and Sanshiro Takagi knowing the identity, with Kiyomiya and Inamura told that they will be given the name of their opponent on the day of the show. Marufuji has been telling the roster that "X" is a legitimate big name that will not disappoint.

Hideki Suzuki recently caused problems for the office by refusing to to do a job for Katsuhiko Nakajima on the April 8 Korakuen Hall show, forcing it to be changed to a 30-minute draw.

Suzuki said he was willing to lose a rematch, but it was noted that Suzuki has used that ploy before, forcing a draw against Nakajima in 2020, and then leaving the company without ever doing the promised job. Suzuki's only loss since he returned to the promotion has been to Masakatsu Funaki, with the locker room speculation being that he is willing to lose to opponents with legitimate shoot credentials only. It should be noted that Suzuki also defeated Zero1 ace Masato Tanaka on the Zero1 Anniversary event on April 10.
