Thanks, yeah, I read the tenancy agreement last night and the landlord has blown past a number of dates specified in there before asking for a ridiculous sum so I don't think there's going to be too much trouble with it.

And that’s all there before you get to the rising obesity, rising rates of drinking too much (guilty) and we don’t seem to be able to get people to stop smoking (intermittently guilty). And all that is before we get to decades of underfunding for the NHS. Politically, public health and the NHS have long been regarded as different political objects. This is nonsense: a healthy population starts with serious monetary investment in public health through things like flexible working, increased minimum wage, tighter advertising controls, more green space, better state-subsidised childcare, renter protections, social housing, etc. The NHS is then able to focus on disease and illness that is considerably less likely to be driven by lifestyle and living conditions, and to be what it was always intended to be: one of many arms of a comprehensive approach to public health. Public health is, really, a left ideal and requires a leftist approach to do it well. Sadly there aren’t any leftists left anywhere near government.

They don't have to go through arbitration, though it doesn't look good to the court if they don't. The court are just going to do the exact same thing and award the same amounts as the arbitration service would, so they hate the courts time being wasted.

Victory for the workers everyone! I'm working a few hours away from home on a 16 day blockade. The core gang were given a half decent hotel with a food allowance. Meanwhile additional workers such as myself were put in a worse hotel, with no food allowance and nowhere around to buy food apart from a Burger King and Waitrose in a petrol station. Anyway everyone complained including the core gang that this was unfair and, after the first block of work, we wouldn't be going back to work until this was changed so everyone was in the same type of hotel and had food allowance. All us additional workers have been moved into the better hotel and have a food allowance!!

Thicker bags don't tend to blow everywhere and are theoretically less impossible to recycle than thin poly bags if we bothered recycling plastic. Some studies show we're not using them properly at all though, so from a plastic production and energy use perspective they may still be doing more harm than good in their present form/price/presentation.
