Gort posted:Over the last few years I've had this, "Starmer's a wrecker, his job is to kick the left out of every position of power in the party, then he'll step down and a "uniter" candidate will step up, allowing the left back in and allowing some token leftists into positions of not-much-power. This way the right stays in charge while still getting the votes from the left" theory. But it's been a hell of a long time and Starmer's still screaming that he desperately doesn't want my vote, so the theory's looking pretty goddamn threadbare by now. I don't think its a realistic scenario just something a little closer to the reality where i vote labour. Just pointing out to the people not completely disenfranchised by the labour right that if you do want to win scolding people into voting isn't the way to do it. Joking about 'infighting in the carpark' is just going to make things worse when a)thats all the labour right did under corbyn and b) thats all the labour right do under Starmer. Its a circular argument, if you want to move past that then you have to be the bigger man when it matters, not simply demand that of others when you're in charge. Stop blaming people for not falling in line when you should be demanding your leader give us a reason to.

Clean Your Teeth posted:don't really have much of a response, but this was an interesting post, thanks. I got lost in my own brain trying to express that lot and forgot to make the actual point, which is that I think that all of that makes them very resistant to the idea of making radical changes to how the country operates, or anythng that would threaten that fundamental hegemony of tory/labour control. Yes it is possible that PR would change how the country works, but for that very reason I think that the current iteration of labour and the tories would not support it. It is very at odds, I think, with their apparent devotion to expanding state power and reducing democratic accountability for that power.

Bobby Deluxe posted:Reminder that darling of the centre Jess Philips grinned her loving teeth inside out at losing an election, these loving ghouls are perfectly happy at losing eternally to the tories as long as they continue to get the free flat and telly fees for sitting there and saying they'd do the exact same as the tories, just with maybe 10% less contempt for anyone without an ancestral title. But you don't have to vote Red instead of Blue to move the needle. I think the only way really move the needle is for Labour to be shown that they can't simply take the left for granted, and the only way to do that is vote for another party or not vote for anyone. Vote Green if your local Green isn't a Terf, or TUSC or anyone but Labour or Tory. E: to people saying that Labour almost voted in PR at conference, Starmer has already shown he's happy to ignore what conference says so I wouldn't put much faith in the wider party being able to force his direction. NotJustANumber99 posted:Actually it isn't. I'm not sure what bit you're doing here, but I guess I'll engage. In most workplaces, they don't let you wank or openly look at porn. I havent worked retail in a long time but I imagine that's true there as well, these days. Probably construction sites are one of the last bastions of workplace wank culture. Although with the increased prevalence of WFH and the gig economy it's debatable how much the boss can really monitor or restrict your wanking habits. Keep it off the workplace devices, and don't indulge when in a communal setting. If you're a deliveroo driver pull over to the side of the road, or wait until Adrian Chiles lets you use his urinal
