It's rare to see local stuff here in these threads, let alone so close to home. I grew up in Whakatane so used to see most of these cars around. I remember dudes back in high school used to swap rotaries for a box of beer, or similar. That woulda been almost 20 years ago. Sad to hear about your rotor bro. Did he also own an RX2 by chance?

Some loving awesome rotaries there - they say your life can be judged by who shows up at your funeral. Looks like this guy did something right - I like every single one, but I have to call out that American '56 Chevy there. How rare is something like that there? Poor judgement maybe, like mine in including it. Darchangel posted:Some loving awesome rotaries there - they say your life can be judged by who shows up at your funeral. I wish I got a pic of that Chev, it was really beautiful and super clean. They're certainly rare here, but probably still more common than the vintage RX2/3/4/5's. More likely to be a Boomer driving it though, not younger guys like this crowd.

I think we're adult enough to appreciate the skill involved in the airbrush detail work while recognizing that just maybe doing your car up in a 109 livery may be problematic. You're good. I'm sorry to hear about your friend, but that looks like a sendoff any car lover would appreciate.

It's very much a "car culture as viewed through the lens of townie Pennsylvania in the 90s", which doesn't seem to be much different through the 00s, 10s, or 20s. Because it's townie Pennsylvania, and that resonates with townie car culture all over places that are kinda backward. Caveat, I've never been to the backwaters of Pennsylvania, but I'm from Canada, and we've got plenty of backwaters up here.

When he is combining literary theory to explain why a car is the way is the channel shines, but when they dive into something they are way out of their depth for (mentioned it before but the 'straight six engines are inherently unbalanced thing from when they reviewed a 4.0 Jeep) it takes them down. Whatever that one video was where he talked about oil weights that was so, so wrong that they actually took the video down to edit it out. Not really liking the 'win this car!' thing they've been doing lately as well, I haven't looked into what the contest is but it very much reeks of 'pay a fee and enter a raffle' sort of vibe.

I'll get hung up on say Docrap Media or that Demuro douchehead (Or Hagerty) when they get poo poo wrong because they try to pretend they are factual channels - there's not much excuse esp for Hagerty to get things wrong esp when you have staff to fact check. And boy do those get it *wrong*. RCR is just him and Roman doing Automotive Shitposting in video form. It wanders off in all sorts of weird rear end directions and you might get an well informed essay on some obscure fact on the English language, a exceptionally well done rap or you get some idiot yelling HOT DICKS for a minute before ending the review with a truly savage takedown. Sure I get mad AF when he gets Group B totally wrong or that GF WRX heater controls dont work the way he says they do but in the end he's still a shitposter and thats pretty much that's all they aspire to be so..... eh. I'll say that for all his lack of automotive knowledge his reviews on the actual car are more accurate than the usual rotten jizz spewed out by "journalists". That says plenty for the "automotive journalist" and none of it good.

Yeah, honestly, learning about dumb idiosyncrasies in super cars kept me from going broke trying to own a secondhand one. Car entertainment can be illuminating without being educational. I also think any of these dudes have the issue where they have reviewed too many cars to give them all an objective score; Doug I think tries to lampshade this, and just give a barometer of how much little annoying factors would prevent him from enjoying it.
